I knew about Moe Berg and some of the others while visiting the Spy Museum in DC. Very cool place if you are in the area :thumbup:

A freind of mine went to the spy muesum right when it opened and recommended it.

What did she do, steal Axis recipes? Maybe she smuggled sauce samples and decoded the ingredients. :confused:

Decades before becoming a famous chef, she worked for the Office of Strategic Services. (The OSS was the predecessor to the CIA.) She was assigned to solve a problem for U.S. naval forces during World War II: Sharks would bump into explosives that were placed underwater, setting them off and warning the German U-boats they were intended to sink.

"So... Julia Child and a few of her male compatriots got together and literally cooked up a shark repellent," that was used to coat the explosives, McCarthy says.

About 2 1/2 years ago I rented out the entire place for the night to host a marketing event. There is an excellent restaurant next door/attached to it that they hook up with on catering deals. Anyway, they have a great lunch menu if you visit the museum during the day.

Neat souvenir shop; lotsa neat gadgets and pop culture spy stuff. Bought a tote bag with 'language of espionage' words and phrases. 'Ghoul' - agent who searches obituaries and graveyards for names of the deceased for use by agents; 'hospital' - Russian slang for prison...
