Phil Hill was almost entirely responsible for my interest in road racing and I'm very sorry to see him go. His accomplishments were impressive back in the day but stand even taller 41yrs after he ran his last race.

:( This is so sad. I just rewatched the Goodwood 2006. It was so moving to me to see him with Derek at the wheel of that red Ferrari Testa Rossa.
When paired with Olivier Gendebien at Ferrari he won the 24 Hours of LeMans three times and has been called one of the finest sports car drivers ever. Later he was part of the Ford GT40 program and drove for Chaparral Cars, winning his last career start for them at the BOAC 6 Hours (1000km) at Brands Hatch in 1967.

Not much else to add. Exceptional both in and out of the car.

I used to enjoy reading him in Road & Track.
Condolences to his family and friends...
I don't really know - but this link to legend F1 drivers DOES have Phil in picture at about the 3:00 (3 minute) mark
