Sounds like a great way to dispose of that "extra" car of dubious value in the garage... it's not like my dad drives that Jetta much any more. :D

Jalopnik covers the LeMons races pretty thoroughly- sounds like a great time. If they ever decide to do one @ VIR...

In third with 203 laps, we have the Bum Steers And The MooPoo Crew Mazda Miata (http://jalopnik.com/5065571/24-hours-of-lemons-texas-day-one-corolla-leads-detroit-iron-3-of-top-5)

The entry list for the next event (http://www.autofiends.com/index.php/2008/11/24-hours-of-lemons-thunderhill-the-cars-of-arse-freeze-apalooza/) is frightening. Where else are you going to see a 100+ car field containing a Peugeot 505 Turbo, '66 Belvedere, '67 Fury, '74 AMC Hornet, 3 Alfa Romeo Alfettas, 2 Fiat X1/9s, Ford Pinto Squire Wagon and a Geo Metro powered by a Honda CBR900RR engine?

6.3: Why Am I Upside-Down? Rule: You're upside-down because you have no business being out on a racetrack. Any driver who puts a car on its roof is out for the rest of the season, beginning immediately.

4.1.1: Lame-Ass Rationalizations: Cars that "should be" worth $500 don't count; cars that "were worth $500" before you spent another $2000 to fix them don't count; cars you've owned for 20 years and spent more than $500 on during that time don't count; "it would have been worth $500 if it didn't already have a cage" doesn't count. Five hundred dollars means five hundred frickin' dollars.

For those who haven't seen it, there's a massive gallery of the Thunderhill race here (http://jalopnik.com/5126078/the-24-hours-of-lemons-arse-freeze+a+palooza-ber-gallery) and a great behind the scenes video here (http://www.autofiends.com/index.php/2009/01/video-thunderhill-lemons-inside-the-lemons-studio/).

Any race that features a motorcycle-engined Geo Metro beating an Isuzu I-Mark, moss-covered 2002 (http://jalopnik.com/photogallery/LTH08Car11/1005772036), and a doorless Miata with turbo plumbing (http://jalopnik.com/photogallery/LTH08Car46/1005782019) sticking 2 feet above the hoodline gets my vote. A bright spot in what's shaping up to be a very bleak year for racing.

You run a Fox! Awesome, post pics. I used to run a Rabbit GTI, still have a street one and my other daily driver is a TDI. I always loved the Fox. It was a pop-riveted Brazilian body with GTI mechanicals. :D Fun car.

For 2012 we will be running April 14-15 at NJMP, May 5-6 at Loudon, JUn 16-17 at Summit Point, and Oct 28-29 at Loudon again.

Me and my dad might be going to the NJMP race in April for a few laughs and a good time. Strictly as spectators though for the time being. We should meet up if we end up going!

I loved the Fox, too. I never had one, but a friend did. Best thing about it was you could bump start it with only one person pushing if you were on level ground. :D

It was my daily driver... when the alternator started getting wonky and not charging the battery I spent about a week push starting the car myself. That was also around the time the shifter bushings went and I only had 1st, 3rd, and 4th gear lol

Hey, you guys PASS people. :D I bet you're winnin somthin depending on whether you're starting farfrumtheback or not.

From some of that on track action, it looks like your brakes are as useful as the steering wheel.

Thanks, we came in 2nd in class and 13th overall out of about 60 at NJMP, DNF's due to blown motor (while in 6th overall 4 hours from the end) at Loudon, and then 3rd in class 20th overall out of 100 cars at Summit Point. We are always just so close. Hoping for better results this year

But yes with that many cars on track theres a lot of slowdowns especially at the beginning, however after a couple hours the pack thins out and you get wide open.

Nice movie!. That is an interesting roll cage design :)

Yeah the cage cost us a big chunk of change. The guys who built it for us do a lot of VW race cars and had some extra tube left over so they gusseted the window frame and the roll hoop to the roof bars by the b-pillar which makes it stiffer and safer. Also they built it on plinth boxes to strengthen the rusty floorpan. I got artistic with a can of paint and painted it yellow lol.
