For what it's worth, in 2007 Will Power qualified P1 at 1:30.054/111.733 and David Martinez qualified slowest at 1:33.892/107.166.
Meanwhile, Danica Patrick replaces Marty Roth in the Futility Watch:
Patrick, who took her maiden IndyCar win earlier this year at Motegi, is set to one of the big draws of the weekend on the Gold Coast and said she hoped to make the most of her improving road course performances to fight for honours.
"I'm really looking forward to racing in Australia,” she said. “I have heard that it is a great road course. I have improved on my road course races over the past couple of years, so I hope to have a strong result.
“But most importantly, I plan to use this weekend as momentum for the first race of 2009 in St. Petersburg."
I'm really impressed with her "improvement". Aren't you?
Wouldn't know that she is 20th from the media attention she is getting.

I just want to say it's sad that the IRL has 24 cars there and CC had 17 last year. Especially considering this is a non-points race and the end for USOWR at Surfers.

I guess since Surfers has a couple stationary chicanes, they didn't need to bring Milka down under to provide the rolling kind. :)
..Or Roth for that matter.
I think a little IRL apologia is due here. The 2003 based Dallara Honda package running at Surfers' this year is a lot older than the 2007 Panoz Cosworth, after all. :tony:

24 cars and all of them slower than 2007 after the first day's practice... I suppose for some, more crap is better...

Forward the Foytility!
How's this for futility? Danica couldn't even complete ONE lap at the start of qualifying. Tore the nose off, it's raining.
Huh, now she spun and stuffed the rear end this time. I don't think she's very happy.

this is awful...the cars are fugly, they sound bloody awful! the field is full of inept drivers like Carpenter, Danican't and Townsend Bell, and its a street circuit!
Plus how the f&%^ does this qualifying setup work anyway? Can't get my head around it at all....
The commentators are AWFUL too...the pit chick keeps saying Surfeers Pearadice, the Australian whoever he is keeps saying Griyem Reehill...
Geez, AJ4 has spun at least 3 times in this session. Twice in one lap, I think. He is who we thought he was!
Nah, not awful at all and Power gets P-1. Sure the cars are ugly and they ain't turbos but the qualifying format I actually liked and all the right people are at the back. Pretty good show. Hope Will wins it.

Thought it was bloody awful! The cars are so unsettled. Power's car is settled but everyone else's seems to jiggle around like a bugger. Danican't was garbage as usual and quattro was awful!

crash.net:
Qualifying was held in challenging conditions for the 24 drivers after a storm hit the circuit barely half an hour before the session was due to begin. It meant the opening phase of qualifying was held on a wet track, and meant a number of fancied runners failed to make it past the first part of the session.

I watched it in the background while doing other stuff... However I almost pissed my self laughing at the absolute ridiculousness of her reaction like it was the safety teams fault that she stalled her engine and then she has the audacity to expect them to drop everything they are doing to get her moving (by waving her arms and pounding her steeringwheel, and no doubt cursing out her crew like usual, how they haven't shot her I will never know) as if she was placed on the track by God himself. I really hope someone punches her in the teeth some day, shes a glorified backmarker taking away a seat and sponsors from drivers who actually deserve it!

I knew something was missing from the US broadcast. God what a refreshing change having Jon in the pits again instead of this idiotic mallrat who can't speak english. She's as incomprehensible as they come. I like to call Ashley Force the gibberish queen because of her valley girl accent but she's no gibberisher compared to Brianne.

And yet despite the gibberish-ness she managed to get engaged to (and now maybe even married to) one of the stars of General Hospital.
I didn't watch the race since there was a Very Important Hockey Game on. I take it other than Danica's meltdown, I'm not missing much and can erase it from the DVR?

Typical street race, only worse because it was an IRL fart and park. Hit erase unless you enjoy evidence of how bad motor sport has become. :yuck: It's easy to understand why nobody in either hemisphere GAF anymore.

I would have too if I was the safety team....
What you don't see in that video, and what I caught on a news replay, was that when she came up to the accident, the workers pointed at her to take the inside line to avoid the mess. She started going that way and then stopped cause she apparently didn't trust them.
Once she saw around the corner and saw the way was clear, she called on her deft talent, years of experience, popped the clutch and stalled it.
And I thought there would never be anything better than the Danistomp clip!
Too bad for the Princess Entitlement Danican't. Just think of the beer drinking time I wasted watching her be unwilling to actually race anybody in BDPS and Atlantics. There was much better stuff to be done overlooking Madness.

I got on the Tom Leykis show yesterday as he had a topic about the bimbo invasion of sports broadcasting events. Was happy to blast brianne and the other valley girls and their irritatingness.. (without naming names). Said thank god for F1 and NHRA which are still all male broadcasting. Even women were calling in agreeing, saying they wouldn't want a man showing them lingerie or shoes so why are women broadcasting on (mostly) male sports? (This isn't about hot ness as that has it's place...just not while I'm being told about what the driver is doing in 12th place.)
