I'm praying they go back to Africa. I have had my heart set on doing Dakar for several years, and frankly South America isn't the same...

Dude, Chile & Argentina are far nicer places to go than north west Africa.

Its not the same though. You can theoretically go on a regular trip through this area, you can't do so through Africa...

I don`t see a problem with moving the race around...Dakars....like Indys can be held anywhers :gomer:

Srsy...it can be considered a brand, then other places can hold the race to boost interest like the Olympics. Heck, if it`s not in Greece it`s still the Olympics....right?

Our robby is doing pretty good actually. he finished todays shortened 6th stage 6th overall. the leader after dodging the first 1/4 leg dropped out at the end of the day advancing robby to 6th.. today was shortend due to the river rising to high at the ford they were supposed to cross.

update.
Qatar's Nasser Al Attiyah has been thrown out of the Dakar Rally, which he was leading, after missing a number of control points on the sixth stage, race organisers said.

sadly on another note 1st time dakar motorcycle runner french driver Pascel Terry died after running out of gas in stage two, found under a tree 2 days later with food and water set out near by. he was 49

Speaking of 'mericans doing good, Mark Miller is in third now that Al Attiyah is out and Jonah Street is in second, and with a stage win to his name.
Both are in with a good chance of winning.

video of robbys roll over
That video had many good features:

1. The guy on the bike had the best view and it was cool of him to stop to make sure they were alright.

2. Robby is good at getting out of wrecks. He left his co-pilot fumbling with his window net and was back before the guy could ask WTF?

3. WRC: the only sport where you're encouraged to continue playing after the Earth has knocked you upside down.

4. The seatbelts bouncing off Robby's shoulders as he continues.

That biker probably didn't want to have to be passed by Gordon for a second time, look what happened the first time.

It’s all over for Street

Having won his first special stage on a Dakar during the 5th stage, American amateur Jonah Street (KTM) has decided, as a precautionary measure, to not take starter’s orders for the 9th stage this morning, due to a very painful injury to one of his wrists

That sucks, he was in forth place overall.

Miller and Gordon, second and third on stage nine.

Miller got out of his car looking shell-shocked after stage 12, said it was the hardest he had ever been on. De Villiers was much the same.

Robby gets out with a grin on his face.
