View Full Version : 2013 The End.
"Among their immediate goals are to add sponsors for INDYCAR and IMS, improve our level of fan engagement and develop strategies to build alignment among our teams, drivers, venues and sponsors.
We've been down this road before. Remember the days when teams would bring in IMS suits to help pitch their sponsorship deals, only to have IMS attempt to steal the sponsor? They're coming back.
HaY Racing Truth.....what is left to champion? What is left to follow?
You IRL followeers have striped every chicken bone left. This is the memory of the 'indycar series' 2013'...it's over man. You all killed it.....

Cosworth back in 2014 they hopeAnd so the requirement that lumps be badged by a manufacturer who must buy tv ads, etc. is gone? I guess I missed that. Chevy and Honda would love to get beat by an engine that you can't find in a showroom on Monday. Or more they would love their "street relevant" engine to beat "a pointy head hi tech F1 type engine".
Whatever.

I wasn't a huge fan of his but I think this is a huge loss. He whined and b!tched with the best of them but he had charisma and skills. I was sorry to read this but not too surprised.
You are a lucky man Dario. Very lucky...and a most wise decision. The DW12 is piece of garbage...now work like your fellow countryman Jackie Stewart did and make this sport safer. Darn shame you went along with it for so long so do the right thing.
Too bad this is how I'll remember your stint in the IRL Indycar Series.

Nice call, Chief.... I am with you.
Never my favorite driver, but after the multiple back injuries, seeing Greg and Dan get killed, and seeing the dwindling crowds, sponsors, events and prestige evaporate before his eyes, Dario has finally wised up, and is calling it a day.
Quite a resume, 3 iNdy fi'hunnert wins, 3 EaRL championships, and arguably, the premier driver in the series, next to Gaylio....
Time to get while the gettin' is good and he can still walk. Maybe sports car racing with his brother, or something is in his future, but another wreck in a crapwagon II would be seriously determinental to his longer term health and well being...

"He's talking," Ganassi said. "His ankle is a little sore, and his back is a little sore. He's going to take a trip to the hospital, but he's OK."
Just in case you needed another reminder that Chip Ganassi is a big fat liar.

What a stupid post
I missed the part where Chip can somehow diagnose broken bones via a phonecall from Dario (or one of the people with Dario at the time).
You did miss a part. The part where Chip was at the crash site as Dario was loaded into the ambulance, and based his comments on his face to face conversation with Dario. That wasn't him yapping based on a phone call with one of Dario's buddies. That was him making a decision to mislead the public about the extent of Dario's injuries after observing them first hand. Do you really think that Dario described the feeling in his broken back and shattered ankle as "a little sore?"

Having been to hundreds of accident scenes in my life, the person in the accident nor someone standing next to him with 0 medical training are not qualified to diagnose a broken anything unless its very visibly broken (ie a compound fracture). In Dario's case his adrenaline level was likely tremendously elevated so the pain does feel like soreness. Once he calmed down in the hospital after a couple hours I bet he was feeling far far worse. His ankle and back were fractured not shattered. If his ankle was shattered he wouldn't be anywhere near the condition he is in now and likely would be worried more about ever walking normal again let alone driving a race car. Also in both cases he wouldn't have been up supporting himself on that walker a few days later.
So I stand by my assertion that your comment was stupid.

Motor racing world (Marion County, that is) hails Dario Franchitti as he is forced to retire. Apparently, there is no motor racing outside the 465 loop
Chip is a dope - but not for lying. Given the history of IRL injury patterns, he is dope for thinking that a sore back/neck/foot is only "sore".

Dial the flex-capacitor or other way-back machine to 1996 and don't [bleep] up the sport with your selfish-stupid vision. That's my suggestion. Of course, if I had a way-back machine I wouldn't waste it on this.

I don't know what was going on in Ganassi's head, but I think he went to the scene of the accident with a real sense of dread about what he might find. When he saw that Franchitti was alert and talking he must have been very relieved. Maybe he should have tempered his comments about Dario being OK. I give Chip a pass on this.

Find the youtube clip of Fontucky 2002 when his HondaLump went up in flames in Turn 3 and came to rest in Turn 4... turn up the sound and see if you can near the chorus of "La La la la, na na na naah, hey hey hey, GOOD-BYE!" from the stands as he walks away...
That was us in turn 4!!!
He should have retired right then, because sans the ALMS run with the xM cars, he hasn't had a decent car to race in 10 years, and the DW12 just eliminated the possibility that he could be as versatile a driver as his brother is.
I wish the guy the best, but I can't bemoan him his present condition... He chose to be where he was... He knew he was "playing a rigged game" in terms of driver safety.
I wish Dario the best in recovery and a great life after racing. He has always treated me well and is a "good bloke" in my eyes.

I've always liked him.
He was a Honda factory driver for so many years - when they went to the IRL, he could have become unemployed or drive the crapwagons.
He chose employment. He knew the risks.
Similar situation to guys going to work in the coal mines of WV, except, not as glamorous.
He never really said bad things about CART/CC, and if there wasn't a camera in his face, you could hear his real thoughts on the IRL.
I looked forward to his career in sportscars.

What! You wouldn't throw your buddies here on OC a bone and solve the "split" on the way to making yourself queen of/richest person in the world with the way back machine?
Dario needs to have a long talk with Paul di Resta, he is not thinking straight.
