Early Suitors for Honda Formula One Team
By Richard S. Chang
A British motorsports icon, a Greek shipping tycoon and a Mexican billionaire have emerged as the early suitors to buy Honda’s Formula One team.
Honda Racing said the sale won’t happen until the new year. Until then, the team is continuing to work on the new car “to ensure that our objective of being on the grid at Melbourne at the end of March will be achieved,” Nick Fry, chief executive of the team told Autosport last week.

The third name is Carlos Slim Helú, the second richest man in the world. The Mexican billionaire owns Telmex, a Mexican telecommunications company.
Stupid Mario to F1! :gomer:
Stupid Mario to F1! :gomer:
Oh, that would be muy bueno!
MEXICAN billionaire Carlos Slim, the world's second-richest man, has rescued the Honda Formula One team, Italian newspaper La Stampa has reported.

Stupid Mario to F1! :gomer:
“The news is not official as all the details have yet to be formalised. But two things are certain - the team has been saved and the drivers will be Jenson Button and rookie Bruno Senna in place of Rubens Barrichello.”
Damn, Mario misses out. :gomer:
Not so fast!
Italian Press making stuff up, again!
From Team Telmex e-mail to client/customer/whatever list I belong to.
ESCUDERÌA TELMEX INFORMA QUE EL ING. CARLOS SLIM HELÙ NO HA ADQUIRIDO NI TIENE NINGUNA NEGOCIACIÒN PARA DICHO FIN CON EL EQUIPO HONDA DE FÒRMULA UNO, POR LO QUE TODA LA INFORMACIÒN RELACIONADA SOBRE ESTE TEMA CARECE DE FUNDAMENTO Y ES COMPLETAMENTE FALSA.
Therefore, Salvador Duran, Memo Rojas or Mario Dominguez will not be in F1 next year.
Slim denies bid for Honda's F1 team: The Telmex racing team owned by Carlos Slim has denied reports the billionaire from Mexico will buy Honda's Formula One team.
Honda officials have announced their intention to pull out of F1 racing because of the crisis in the auto industry.
The rumor in the press was $1 and assuming all debts. Bruno Senna was linked to the deal.
According to our sources Bruno Senna has now signed for the Honda Racing F1 team - and an announcement that the team will be going ahead will be made soon. The team is expected to use Mercedes-Benz engines and Senna will be partnered by Jenson Button. Backing for the team - the name of which has yet to be announced - is expected to come from Petrobras and probably one or two of Senna's personal sponsors.

Does the Petrobras sponsorship include a deal to run F1 on Brazilan ethanol? Petrobras is the world's largest buyer for ethanol and is building an 800 mile ethanol only pipeline from Brazil's agricultural interior...
:saywhat:
Jenson's place at the rear end of the grid is secured?
And who will loan him the spare change for his super licence?

There have been some rumours in recent days that the team may have the backing of none other than Bernie Ecclestone. This would not be a surprise as Ecclestone is keen to make sure that the teams are not unanimous within the Formula One Teams' Association (FOTA) and having a financial interest in one of them is a good way to ensure that this happens.
Ruh Roa. Maybe that part sucks more
It is believed that the majority of the money to run the team will be coming from Honda itself as it is cheaper to pay to keep the team alive than it is to lay off all the staff.
So this is really a Honda team running MB engines. Mr Honda would never have approved. :shakehead

Brawn and Fry are said to have equal equity, although Fry’s name has not been used in name of the team, in much the same way that he gave up his team principal job title in order to attract Brawn to Honda in the first place.

Someone help me out. Why is Fry a wanker? Not doubting. I just don't know anything of the man.
I had a lot of hope for Honda this year given that Brawn had a year to sort out the new car. Now it will be fun if they produce any results at all given their rag tag team. They could actually be worth rooting for.
But why does this have the feeling of CC/CARTs final days with subsidized cars and owners grabbing money? Hmmmm/

I'm not sure what you mean, but are you saying that because he keeps appeasing Brawn? If so, the flip side is he doesn't need his ego stroked and he feels they need Brawn to win.

SportsPro magazine called Fry the worst manager to ever work within the sport.

Fry has been characterized as "the worst manager to ever work in sport." On top of that he runs his mouth and what comes out is rarely helpful to his cause.
Classic wanker stuff.

I was thinking about buying it, but then we'd be looking at relocating, and with the kids in the middle of a school year and all, it was just a bit more trouble than it was worth.
...and Danica wouldn't sign the contract, right? :p
