View Full Version : "Credit Suisse departs BMW Sauber"

It is no great surprise to hear that Credit Suisse has ended its relationship with the BMW Sauber team.
:\
Poor banking practices and just being crooks get them their just desserts.
Credit Suisse has been having a miserable time for most of the last year. In March 2008 the bank was hit by a trading irregularities scandal which resulted in the bank having to write-down $5.73bn. This was followed by a further write-down of $2.65bn resulting from the credit crisis. In the autumn Credit Suisse announced plans to shed around 5300 jobs and there are reports that a similar number will go in 2009.
RBS is in deep with the British banking bailout. I wonder if their Williams sponsorship will get axed as part of their acceptance of a billions of £s 'lent" to put some assets in their books? And next we'll be hearing about ING and Santander sponsorship deals going down the drain...

Seriously.
Tobacco is out as sponsors.
Financial types now look to be gone. Even if they wanted to, how would sponsorship work as marketing when taxpayers feel they are paying for it?
Beer companies seem to be going away across all parts of the sport. I read the other day that Americans are now drinking more wine than beer (I'm not sure I can believe that)
Tech companies never really took hold.
Who else has the money to fun the sport at the Truck level, let along F1?

Makes me all dewy eyed for the days of the Oberto salami, Provimi veal and Kraco aftermarket car radio sponsorships in CART.... :gomer:
As for F1, sponsorships were illegal until 1968 so they don't have the same rich tradition of BBQ shacks and meat packing houses to return to in this, their hour of need. Bernie is used to being quite stuffy about the sponsors allowed, so this could be interesting when faced with choices between teams disappearing off the grid or sponsors with less that sterling pedigrees....:gomer: Any predictions? Gertie's Nazi Hooker Brothel...?

Various Columbian cartels in need of laundry work? Those rumors have been around since the Brits invented their version of the GTR.

Although their roll out was almost a spartan as Williams'.
Are all the teams issued a Pinewood Derby kit with one set of plans now?

The giant front wing makes Kubica's head look normal-sized.
The reason Credit Suisse were on Sauber was because the then CEO was a huge F1 fan. He left early last year and it was known that after 2008 Credit Suisse would not be sponsoring F1 anymore. Simple as that. Nothing to do with banking problem.
