Rumor that Atlantics' prize purse will total $3.5 million for 2009.
* $50,000 per race win

Can you even run a race weekend in an Atlantic for $50K, between tires, spares, etc.?

Not quite, but $50k is a damned good-size purse for the winner... that's more than a Grand-Am DP race winner took home in 2007 for any race except the Rolex.
It's also more than an IRL race winner collected in 2008 ($35,000).
Although, I don't know if teams receiveing money from FTG were given all their winnings.

That's why you have sponsors. The winnings usually go to a driver with a % going to the team.

That's why I asked. I'd find it hard to believe that you could demonstrate adequate ROI on an Atlantic sponsorship to justifiy the expense.
Unless, of course, that you own the business sponsoring the car and you can write it off your taxes.
It'd be cool if Atlantics were a better exposure mechanism than the Hurl, wouldn't it?

Anyone know how the junior crapwagons compare?
From the article
The $1 million champion's prize is the most lucrative championship payout in a North American open-wheel driver development series.
Whatever it is this is the only bit of good news I've seen on motorsports generally in a long time
Just for giggles I looked it up.
Prize Money for Firestone Indy Lights in 2008
Firestone “Championship” Bonus: $25,000 will be paid to the championship driver and $25,000 will be paid to the championship owner for the 2008 Firestone Indy Lights season.
They also claim the top four drivers should earn $250,000 over the season, but I couldn't find a breakdown listing the prize amount for each position.
How long before FTG starts to copy Atlantics? :gomer:

Autobahn Joliet, as in Joliet, Illinois? Or is this Canada? (you know, Joliet being French and all . . . .)
Joliet, IL, at the country club place. It's new.
Hope HDNET replays tonight...
(thanks, Gnam)

No replay that I can find. Yesterdays program was listed as "Auto Racing - Formula Atlantic Championship" but the NJ rounds are listed as "Mazda Formula X" so it looks like we may only get highlights.

Wow. That might garner a .001 rating. HDNet is premium for TWC HD customers. I pretty sure it's the same for Crapcast, too. :irked:

I watched first of the two race from over the weekend last night. It turns out that it was a three hour program with MX-5 Cup, Star Mazda, and Atlantics. The HD was very good as usual on HDNET, but the coverage suffered from too few cameras.
The racing itself was decent, not great. de Silvestro managed to keep things interesting for a while in the Saturday race. It didn't help that I wasn't able to follow last season so there aren't many players that I recognize.
Still looking for a spark of enthusiam..

Does anyone in Atlantics have a sponsor? Pretty much looks like megabuck Kart racing.

And Jonathan Summerton...still waiting to be "discovered." Be a good replacement for DP if she moves on.
