The neighborhood in question is a very quaint residential area. I'm amazed the plane only hit one house. The potential for this to be so much worse was huge.

Police identified the victim as Aasiya Z. Hassan, 37. Detectives have charged her husband, Muzzammil Hassan, 44, with second-degree murder.


Muzzammil Hassan is the founder and chief executive officer of Bridges TV, which he launched in 2004, amid hopes that it would help portray Muslims in a more positive light.

I woke up some time before 3 am this morning to see this news scrolling across the bottom of the tv screen. So sad. :(

I saw this right before I went to bed at about 11:00 CT. Since the plane crashed at 9'something my time I for sure thought I would have heard something earlier, even if it was "a plan has crashed near Buffalo; more details when available." When I saw the pictures late last night I thought the worst and unfortunately was right. :(

An NTSB investigator says that the plane didn't nose dive into the house but appears to have hit flat and pointing the wrong direction. Sounds very much like a flat spin, probably the result of the icing that was reported. One report said that the plane's deicing equipment was active so they'll probably focus on whether it was functional.

I just saw a story that the plane that crashed was on autopilot. According to that video they probably had no indication until it was too late.

Good chance that if the flight crew had reviewed that video last week they'd be here now. Deicing active + autopilot engaged = big problem when they hit the flaps during their decent.

This class of aircraft in known icing conditions makes me want to be on the ground. :(

Got to have been ice acretion. I could be wrong but I think the DHC-8 use de-icing boots rather than an anti-ice bleed air system. Which gets me thinking, had the guy broken off some ice and tried to use the de-icing boots as an anti-ice measure. If he had, the ice would just have formed over the top of them, rendering them useless.
