Danica 14th, Milka 15th. I guess Ms. Patrick is hanging back to show her friend Milka the way around. Only the first test, but... Of course the Bobby D car, Matos and Wilson were even further down. Oh, and Tiger is back!

When you combine the practice reports, Danica winds up in 15th and Milka in 17th with a .04 difference in fastest lap time.
Could be an interesting season for Danica if the testing results carry over into the season.
Yep, the closer those two run the better the entertainment.:)

Penske and Floyd need to test to try the new arrow mods done during the offseason.
Foyt & Vision need the test to make sure the truck drivers can still leave a full paddock early without hitting anything.

Beyond pathetic. When they came on Speed Report I didn't know what the sound was at first, then it sunk in; they sound like muted RC airplanes or something you would hear at the dentists office, at least on TV. The reason I hadn't made the mental connection between the sound and a car on screen is that it doesn't sound anything like any car I've even heard, certainly not a race car. But hey, the "fans" won't know the difference...:D
You can hear them in this video clip at the 1:28 mark.

For the first time I think, I will disagree with OC. They sound far better than in the past. Sounds like the Acura LMP2 car last year... BUT its hard to tell from that sampling. The only true test is in person... and nothing will compare to the turbo whine.

Danica Patrick is an extremely talented race car driver, among the best open wheelers in the world today. But she'll never get the recognition for it. Danica makes news when she poses in a swimsuit mag, or dishes for Maxim, or gets in a catfight on pit row with another female driver. Patrick is deserving of our utmost appreciation as an athlete. All she gets is attention for her looks. It can't be an easy plight for a dedicated sportswoman.
Uhhmmmm.... WHAT??!?!?!?!?!
Danica gets exactly the kind of attention she wants for what she wants....$$$

Oh yeah....you shoulda heard them old single-sided Toyota turbos pointed at you if you had the pleasure to be at the concrete barrier back in the early 2000's. My favourite sounds in the world are in no particular order...
-Champcar turbos of the late 1990s with the stratospheric rev limits
-Formula 3 engines
-Caterham Superlight R500
-Zonda F
-Any Formula 1 engine ever
-Renault World Series motors
-Fontana midget engine
-Aston Martin DBR9
-Judd 5.0L V10 Sportscar engine.
I think one thing shows up there, I'm not really a V8 sort of person...

I remember hearing them for the first time at Nazareth. They were notably louder, but not unappealing - like a mechanical fire truck siren ;) . I guess beauty is in the ear of the beholder...

Yes, and words fail. There's is a bit of an exhale with each gear change going up through the gears. Sometime it goes pop, but mostly it's just the "p" without the "op" on the end. Sigh....
Another sound I love is the big inline 6 sports cars from the early 60's era. The D Jags, Aston Martins, etc. sounded incredible. Going to Waterford Hills to watch them were the high points of the summer.

back 'round '73 there was an endurance race at Road America and the factory BMW CSL was there. Can't remember if it was David Hobbs or Hans Stuck pitching it around Turn 6 but the damn thing just made the hair on the back of your neck stand up.

The JPS 635CSI's in the Oz touring cars, 84-85, were the same.
You may laugh, but back in '68 the SCCA DP Corvairs had a GREAT exhaust note. Sounded more like Porsches than a Porsche!:D
I agree about the "wretched loudness". After years of turbocharged V8s having one bank open to the atmosphere was intolerably loud to me. Those Toyotas made me go out to my car and get ear plugs out of my toolbox. From a good distance it way tolerable and even wonderful, but at trackside it just hurt.

I used to ask the Toyota guys to blast an airhorn to warn us before they fired them up in the paddock. You could be right next to a Honda engine but when the Toy started up, it just hurt. And it wasn't really just your eardrums. It hurt your teeth, body and soul.

My most memorable sound was listening to one of Bob Tullius' Group 44 Jags coming up the Andretti straight and lifting before turn 10 at Mosport. Glorious. Also any of the 935K3's. The whistle-pop and then belch of flame was really cool to a 12 year old...
