OK, I have a question about noise canceling headphones - particularly the earbud type. I know that these headphones monitor ambient noise and generate out of phase sound waves that are projected to the listener to cancel out the ambient noise. Do they do the reverse? Will the noise canceling technology prevent those nearby from hearing the music, or is the noise canceling only one way, that is filtering out the ambient noise. I want to know before I buy a pair of these to give to my wife . . . . . .

sorry, they won't cancel out your wife, you'll still be able to hear her. :gomer:

They will cancel any ambient noise emanating from your ears. :gomer:

If the ringing in your ears is so loud that other people can hear it, they might help.

What about the voices in my head. What will make them go away?

Hmmm. Seems like I could just merge this, the head chopping thread, and the STS-119 thread.

Somehow I think the Jay Cutler thread fits in there also. :D

Also the interesting commercial thread. Anytime you run power tools it's best to use ear protection.
