This is excerpt from Nick Saban and Utah Coach taken from an event they both attended recently
Saban in his remarks said they should have beaten Utah by 2 touchdowns
Former Utah OC Andy Ludwig was in attendance for Saban's lecture. Ludwig, who is now the OC at Cal, presented Thursday morning and took a little offense to Saban's remarks. Ludwig opened the lecture by saying "I try to keep everything simple. You know, I sat here last night and listened to a man say how he had 30 different ways to run cover 2, and I'm just sitting there thinking to myself, 'geez, I only have one way to run a dig route'. But you know what? That one way was more than enough to beat him." (he was talking about Saban)
Later, towards the end of his speech he said, "You know, I'm sitting in the audience and I hear 'We should have beat Utah by two TDs' and I almost stood up and said, 'yeah, but you didn't.' It's kind of hard to win by two tds when you're down 21 points in the first half [1st quarter really]."
Father of the Year.
Alabama linebacker Courtney Upshaw did not initiate the altercation that landed him in jail today on a charge of misdemeanor domestic violence/harassment, the father of the female involved told the Press-Register.
Kendall Grzyb, a 19-year-old UA student from Madison, Ala., was arrested on the same charge as Upshaw. According to her father, the two "had been dating on-again and off-again" and were arguing around 10 p.m. Wednesday near the Student Recreation Center on campus.
Dave Grzyb called it "a simple lovers' quarrel altercation."
"The cops just happened to be there and see it and they took them both in," he said, "I hate to see this guy get in too much trouble because I honestly think it was probably initiated by my daughter. I don't think he laid a hand on her. He just tried to restrain her to keep from getting hit again."
http://blog.al.com/bamabeat/2009/08/father_of_girl_involved_in_alt.html
Sgt. Rusty Romine of the University of Alabama Police Department reported in court documents obtained by the Press-Register that he saw Upshaw chase down Grzyb and he then "grabbed (Kendall) Grzyb by the back of the neck and hair with his right hand and pushed her downward in what appeared to be an attempt to push her to the ground."
http://blog.al.com/bamabeat/2009/08/police_account_says_upshaw_gra.html
The father in question was later quoted as saying, "Hell, bitch had it coming."
ROLL TIDE!
Shouldn't you be posting about the 3rd TX TE to go down for the season? :gomer:
In the meantime, Rick Rod is looking for walk on talent:
http://www.freep.com/article/20090803/SPORTS06/908030374/1054/SPORTS06/Rich-Rodriguez-looks-to-tap-walk-on-talent-
"One of the things we did when we first got there was let's see what we can do to enhance our walk-on program," Rodriguez said. "We've always been pretty good, but we wanted to take it to another level. That's a process. It doesn't happen overnight and, like anything else, it's going to take a few years. But I think we started off with some quality guys who can have success, not only athletically, but academically at Michigan.
"They're going to create some competition at practice, and I would suspect in the new walk-on group, there will be three to four of them who will earn scholarships. There will be one or two who may play as soon as this year, and I'm really excited about that."

Ouch. Tress takes an uncharacteristic unnecessary gamble and almost gets bitten by it.
Unconventional offenses are always the bane of the Buckeye defense but the O-line will need to do a lot better job against USC to have a chance.
Good news: Pryor looks better even though he still made a couple of mistakes. And Duron Carter catches like his dad.

Aye on all points. I was surprised how well the O played and how suspect the D was. Obviously three plays turned the tide in this game: the decision to go for it on 4th and 2 in the 4th (and Tress admitting the mistake), the 85 yard TD following the failed 4th and 2 conversion, and following those plays with the INT on the next possession. :shakehead
Let's just hope Duron doesn't sign with an agent too early. :gomer:

Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor wore Michael Vick’s name on one of his eye black strips and said this after the No. 6 Buckeyes’ 31-27 victory against Navy: “Not everybody is a perfect person in the world. Everyone kills people, murders people, steals from you, steals from me, whatever. I just feel that people need to give him a chance. I always looked up to Mike Vick, and I always will. I still think he’s one of the best quarterbacks to me. I love Mike Vick.”

He definitely hasn't matured in his decision making. Pryor repeatedly took long shots at big plays instead of focusing on the down and distance.
Unfortunately was really the defense that let them down in the end. Giving up long drive like that at the end of the game after playing so well at the start of the half was just sad.

To make fried butter, the butter itself needs to have an outer coating, or shell, if you will — something that can withstand the bubbling cauldron of the deep fryer.
“I mean, butter by itself does not taste good,” Gonzales said. “Nobody just grabs a stick of butter and eats it. That would be gross.”
So here’s what Gonzales does: He takes 100 percent pure butter, whips it until it is light and fluffy, freezes it, then surrounds it with dough. The butter-laden dough balls are then dropped into the deep fryer.
For purists who just want the unadulterated taste of butter, Gonzales serves up plain-butter versions of his creation. For others who want a little more pizzazz, he offers three additional versions with flavored butters: garlic, grape or cherry.
“When you taste it, it really does taste like a hot roll with butter,” said Sue Gooding, spokeswoman for the State Fair of Texas. “It tastes great.”

University of Alabama football player Courtney Upshaw will attend anger management classes after a domestic violence incident in August involving his girlfriend.
Tuscaloosa County District Judge Joel Chandler will grant the 19-year-old sophomore linebacker youthful offender status, a standard sentence for someone that young with no previous criminal history.
Chandler will grant the youthful offender status if Upshaw completes the classes before a court hearing scheduled for Dec. 9.
Upshaw’s girlfriend, Kendall Lynn Gryzb, was also granted youthful offender status, which means the charge will not appear on their criminal records. She was also ordered to attend anger management classes.
Upshaw and Gryzb were arrested on Aug. 20 after a University of Alabama police officer saw them fighting in the UA Recreation Center parking lot.
“It was a wrong place at the wrong time, blown out of proportion thing,” said his attorney Andrew Smithart.
Both Upshaw and Gryzb were charged with third-degree domestic violence/harassment. According to documents, a UAPD officer saw Upshaw chasing Gryzb, who turned around and yelled at him, the officer said.
“At this time, Upshaw grabbed Gryzb by the back of the neck and hair with his right hand, and pushed her downward in what appeared to be an attempt to push her to the ground,” Officer Rusty Romine wrote.
She freed herself from his grasp, the officer said, and tried to hit him in the face. Upshaw grabbed her by the forearm and pushed her away, the officer wrote.
Upshaw told the officer that Gryzb had slapped him because he was talking to another woman.
Gryzb’s father shielded her from news cameras at the Tuscaloosa County Courthouse Wednesday morning. He turned around to yell “Roll Tide!” as they left the building.
“This is as fine a young man as we have in the program,” Alabama head coach Nick Saban told reporters after the arrest. “Really a great person, really works hard academically, we couldn’t ask anyone to be a better representative of the organization.
“He was put in a compromising situation and didn’t handle it very well. He obviously made a mistake in how he handled the situation. I think nobody feels worse about it than he does.”

I can see how watching real football would be such painful reminder to a Buckeye

Purdue beat Ohio State -- priceless! I wore my Boiler Up shirt to work yesterday and I'm pretty sure that's why this happened.

Yes, no Dwarven Crown for the Buckeyes without better play at Quarterback.
Did we even have a QB back there today? :shakehead TP should have had his @ss benched in the 3rd Q. This performance failed on every single level...TOs, penalties, lopsided ToP yet again, and the inability to adjust the O or D game plans (also yet again). Fail.

Dang... 3 fumbles, missed FG, dropped passes, Spikes out and Arky has a nice lead at half.
I'll come back for my crow if UF loses this one... ouch.
OU/UT == 8 TOs and 21 penalties?!? :saywhat: :yuck:
