RIP Darrell "Shifty" Powers, one of the soldiers of Easy Company (Band of Brothers)

It's so sad that people in this country get whipped into a frenzy over celebrity deaths, and the passing of a hero is largely ignored.

RIP Mr. Powers. And thank you. :(

yeah, don't get me started with American's addiction to film/music/athletic celebrities. There are scientists bombarding atoms in super colliders to help discover the beginnings of the universe, medical scientists discovering groundbreaking cures and soldiers doing heroic acts every day and they do it without the fame or wealth of our entertainment 'hero's'. But Lady Gaga lives the life of a demi-god, and an accused dead child molester singer is heralded as a savior of mankind.

RIP Mr Powers. Thank you for your service.

Excellant post, RIP.

The musician, actor, race driver, athlete or thug as hero phenomena is a reflection of the state of education as well as the level of marketing machine and media saturation. Real heroes aren't in constant rotation on MTV. It's also interesting to note that folks that actually know famous musicians and athletes first hand is likely to confuse many of them with real heroes.
