View Full Version : RA - Kohler Intl / Brian Redman
It looks like I might finally get to a historics weekend at RA this weekend. Probably won't get there until very late Fri night or Sat morning. (Still need to find a place to sleep.)
Tips ? Advice ?
Anyone else going ?
Make sure to check the upper paddock, there might be some cool hardware up there during the BRIC. Some late model (c.95-2000) F1 cars and an R8 LMP were there in the last couple years and you're so close you can damn near stick your head in the cockpits.
If you drive a Mustang you get in free according to the radio spots here in Chicago. On a related note, Road Am has the second or third most un-listenable radio ads in town.
Get a Brat, RGP (f/k/a RFG) Potatoes and a Spotted Cow Ale at the joint overlooking T-14 up the hill.
Siebken's goes without saying, but there is also another bar in the Village of Elkhart Lake you might want to check if so inclined. Can't exactly remember the name but its something ursine I believe. I just discovered it late last summer while up for a friend's wedding.
Drink beer, have fun.

Not going, but I was in La Crescent last Saturday if that makes you feel any better (or worse). :D
Well La Crescent has added a second liquor store and updated the remaining dive bar.

I was around the La Crescent area back in May (driving through :D) and thought of you.
They sell spotted cow at RA? Awesome.

They sell spotted cow at RA? Awesome.
They did back in '07 when I was there, and you didn't buy me one...
You still "owe" me TWO beers, Nic. ;)
Spotted Cow is OK, but I usually get something STRONGER (Sprecher's Double IPA works well for me) when I'm drinking what I prefer.
Wish I could be at RA instead of Fontucky (Vintage races out here this weekend also), but the SoCal crew may be celebrating "traylabasura's" birthday at the track this weekend.
We shall see how many actually show up.

I'll be there!

Thanks Easy and Corner5, been to RA plenty of times, just never to this weekend.
So who else will be there, I might have an extra VIP pass.

I was only 20 in '07. :D
And I am just now starting to get into "better" beer. I can't believe I used to drink busch lite. :yuck:

Make sure you maximize your track time on Saturday. If I am remembering correctly* Saturday rather than Sunday offers the total cross section of classes on track.
*I may be confusing it with the SVRA weekend.

Here's the schedule-
Most races are on Sunday-

Stupid SVRA trying to confuse me..
Our sched. always has us headed from the track back to the Victorian Village Barefoot Beach party deck on the lake (next to Siebkens) , at about 4:00 on Friday. At 6:00 you can hear the racecar parade making it's way from the track to the streets surrounding Siebkens. Incredible opportunity to photograph the cars as they arrive and park along both sides of the street, a totally different setting than usual. (One showoff flipped a Can Am McLaren into a ditch on Rt. 67 doing a burnout 2 yrs. ago.:shakehead) When the engines go silent the fans walk in the street among the cars, talk to the owners, take pics, etc. Augie III drove the family Scarab into town for the 1st time last year and of course had to endure people telling him how they saw ol' Dad win the June Sprints in that car in 1960!:D Get ice-cream, mixed drinks, hand-carved sanwiches, or full-blown dinners mere feet from the street. Now, FORGET what you had to do and get trackside EARLY on Friday! Sleep in the car or buy one of the new condos at Siebkens!;) A mere 324k gets you a 3br...at least last July it did. Hope you can make it sometime this weekend. I'm on my way at 5am, should hit the gate at 8!
Today was my only chance to get up there this weekend so I went.
Thin Can-Am turnout so far but I don't think everyone has arrived yet even though practice started today. There is an R8 LMP.
Good turn out of 70s F1 and F5000s. Also of note, an ex-HHF Williams FW-19 from Cheques WDC season and a couple late 90s Benettons.
Several later 90's Lola Champ Cars, several Lola Indy Lights including a former Dixon or Renna Pac West version. Also Juancho's Montoya's Indy 500 T Car.
Oh and more Ford GTs than you may ever see in one place at one time. Ford is doing a big promo this weekend.
As always RA is well worth it if you can make it. Enjoy the parade tomorrow, I really wish I was staying all weekend.
Holy Ford GT's !!!!!! Unbelievable how many there were.
Neat weekend, first time at a vintage event.
Always great to back at RA.
I even was able to get my son some wienermobile stickers.
Next year is all about Can-Am.

Does anyone know of a good online site for photos from the BRIC? I've got a friend at work I'm trying to strongarm into going next year and some "visual enticement" would help....

I have a couple old albums from '05 on Community Webshots. I still attend every year but don't take as many photos and what I do shoot I haven't been uploading.

See? The good old days are still with us! Check out the race video in the "Take A 20 Min. Break..." topic in the Sportscar forum. These guys really push, not just parade.
