The ALMS race at Mid Ohio is worth watching to see how the Vettes do against the Ferraris, porsches & BMWs. This should be fun.

Yes, but kind of a poor choice for a debut. I'd think they would want a faster/wider/longer kind of place. (?) So, how many in GT2? Is GT1 even gridding?

If you having seen it the livery is way good. Trevor showed it to me yesterday. Perhaps he'll post a link.

Good looking cars. The question is, do both get an automatic invite to Le Mans next year? I hope so!

If they win the Petit they will. But given that its the same core personnel they should both be approved tout suite.

These are such neat cars. Even the GT1 was great. I don't understand why GM doesn't go all out advertising using the Vette's success in Europe and forget all about stupid nascab. A few weeks ago a privateer Vette won the SPA 24-Hours against Maseratti's, Ferrari's & Porsche's and no one in the USA main stream heard about it. WTF? :shakehead

This is an excellent example of why I'm so ambivalent about racing these days, nice event, lousy field.

I'm still arguing with myself about going, but it's hard to justify the ticket and the gas money for that lineup, and we Champ Car fans all know what going to watch meager fields just to be supportive gets you.

That's OK, next year when they slap a sub-P2 spec prototype class in there, everything will be OK.

Probably because nobody in GM management knew about it. You're right, it's a giant opportunity pissed away.

To be honest, I'd rather see the GT2 race on TV Sunday rather then an Acura leading another Acura by 25 seconds. You know they'll get less then 15 minutes of on-track TV coverage.

True, but how many Audi romps did we endure and think little of the "competition?" As a majority owner of GM, I propose a govt. stimulus plan to design, build and WIN the LeMans 24hr. (and return) before the end of the decade! GO GOODWRENCH!

The Corvette is built for E85 & the ACO doesn't run E85.

Therefore no Le Mans.

I'm fairly certain the GT1 started running E85 last season.

True but they are in GT2.

Follow up from the earlier Corvette Racing show and tell – Doug Fehan believes it is only a matter of time before they can race E85 at Le Mans. He sees 2010 as doubtful, but believes that by 2011, the ACO will allow E85 to be used in the 24-hour race.

Who said? They'll be sure to get an invite and I'm sure Luc Alphand Aventures will be there in GT1. As for the E85 issue, they've run it in ALMS for at least two years and still competed in Europe. The motorsport guy from Mazda was asked about it on the Euro/Aussie Le Mans feed and said that all they do is change the engine mapping so I'm sure Corvette racing is more than capable of doing that.

Flying Lizard Motorsports’ Patrick Long and Jörg Bergmeister tied a Series record with their fifth straight GT2 victory and spoiled Corvette Racing’s GT2 debut in the process. Long and his Porsche 911 GT3 RSR beat Corvette’s Johnny O’Connell by 21 seconds. O’Connell drove the new Corvette C6.R with Jan Magnussen.

I did get an email from what I'm guessing is the programming director from our local NBC affiliate (WKYC):

First of all, allow me to apologize. We scheduled the Indians game long before we knew that NBC would put the ALMS race on Sunday. We have a contract with the Indians to carry 20 of their 160 games on our broadcast air. We select our games in December long before NBC lays out its sports calendar. Since there are certain NBC sports events that I am not allowed to pre-empt, I then have to go back and move some games and schedule others. I try to equally pre-empt different sports – I bump some hockey, some golf, some tennis, some volleyball and yes, some racing. But I would not intentionally bump a race being held in Ohio – I am well aware of the local interest. But we are deep enough into the season that I am very limited in my ability to switch anything more this season. So some decisions I have to live with. NBC does not allow me to tape delay sports, air it on a different station (like STO) or even show it online. So when I pre-empt something – unfortunately, it’s gone for good. So, again. I apologize – I am very sorry that we inconvenienced you and interrupted your viewing.

THere were thunderstorms in Southern WI, so my local NBC weather tard kept cutting in to advise not to play in the hail and lightning and go indoors. Not supposed to drive my vehicle through deep water either....thanks Einstein....missed many key sections of race. All networks should be banned from carrying sports, put it on cable only.

Yeah, we are constantly bombarded with with dire TORNADO WARNINGS...about 48 miles away! (of course that DOES give me plenty of time to finish the lawn, have lunch, take a little nap then get to the basement TV.:gomer:)

Agreed, local affiliates are not capable of self-control whether it's team coverage of the raindrop or preempting with womens NCAA regional golf or a telethon.

The local weather talking heads are out of control here as well. A simple weather crawl with the counties under watch will suffice. They should only pre-empt when the trailers are flying.

I once asked a local station manager why during an extended tornado watch interruption of a race they managed to find time for commercial breaks. That did produce an obvious silence ended with the observation. "Maybe I should bring that up at the next production meeting." :D

Good for you. I had a similar conversation with a local affiliate once, but it kind of derailed when I callled the guy a douchebag.
