Many thanks! When I bought my 1st Mazda I asked for the big framed poster of the 792 from the general manager's office to "seal the deal" ...and he gave it to me!:) Been hanging behind the TV ever since.

I hated that car...in a positive way. :D I dreaded it coming by. Even with earplugs it HURT when that thing came through the woods at Road America.

I remember that on a warm and humid day you could see the exhaust impulses torturing the air as the sound came to liquefy your brain.

Everybody mentions the noise, but I don't remember it being that different. On the other hand, back then I would sit in the GA area on the East Bank at Portland, so I was a ways back from the track.

I just know that to this day, it remains my all-time favorite prototype.

Funny, for me it was actually the GTU RX-7 that caused the most pain.

Check out the Mazda Furai Concept at Laguna on Youtube. Familiar sound!:D (and even muffled, I'm sure!)

For those who didn't have the "pleasure" of experiencing those things, imagine combining the rattle of a chainsaw with the pitch of a dental drill, crank it up to around 115dB, and run it inside a metal garbage can...

Great little race cars, but tough on your ear drums and dental fillings.
