the other day on the way into work, i came upon a bimmer 5 series coming the other way. it was pretty non-descript except for one thing: on the hood and trunk ornaments, instead of a white propeller in a blue sky, it was a red propeller in a blue sky. i didn't get a close inspection, but it struck me as odd.
any significance?

the blue and white emblem have nothing to do with propellers or sky color.
the white and blue colors stand for the bavarian flag. that being said changing white to red results in further confusion

The circular blue and white BMW logo or roundel is portrayed by BMW as the movement of an aircraft propeller, to signify the white blades cutting through the blue sky – an interpretation that BMW adopted for convenience in 1929, twelve years after the roundel was created.[7][8] The emblem evolved from the circular Rapp Motorenwerke company logo, from which the BMW company grew, combined with the white and blue colors of the flag of Bavaria, reversed to produce the BMW roundel.

The wikipedia article sites this document (http://jeff.dean.home.att.net/roundel-myth.pdf)as it's source. Whether the origin was related to a propeller or not is irrelevant as BMW itself has perpetuated the meaning of the design as being indeed, a propeller; using it in numerous advertisements dating back to the '20's. The logo = propeller.
Yavol, und der propeller ist still their symbol. :gomer:

I notice the stick on 'Buick' fender vents are all the rage now. I see them on everything from Suburbans to Civics. I'm doing two rows of three on the truck. I'm going to drill holes in them though, through the fender, to make them 'active'. :)

The flip side of the coin, over the years BMW has offered deletion options for leaving badges off the their M models.
