View Full Version : boy in a balloon
Anybody watching this?
Six-year-old in an experimental helium balloon. He was playing in it, and it "took off" (broke it's tethers).
Almost on the anniversary of the girl falling down the well, I think.
Looks like it's coming down soon.

I hope the broadcasters start exercising that seven second delay soon, as the kid is losing altitude quickly.

They just said (MSNBC) that there doesn't appear to be anyone in there at all. Watch the kid have been hiding in the basement and set the thing off as a diversion.
At this point, I hope it's a hoax. otherwise...:(

That farmer is gonna be pissed his field got all tore up for nothing. No kidding. Not one of the vehicles followed in another vehicle's tracks, they all blazed their own trail. The farmer is probably telling them that was the best field of winter wheat that he has planted in 45 years.
If I'd pulled a stunt like that when I was six my butt would have glowed so red it would be detectable from orbit.
And yes, they did have satellites with infra red imaging back then.

Oh, I'm sure I would be here as well. :saywhat: Back when I went to middle school here ~'80, they used paddles with holes drilled into the paddle. And yes, I received a few swats with one...or two. :gomer:

Nevermind. It's not real. It's a hoax. A prank. He's hiding in a barn. Hey, turn left here.

Glad it all turned out ok but I had to smile when I heard the kids name was 'Falcon'. One day you're flying with the eagles, next day you're just a feather duster.
I'd hug him, and then tell him I loved him and how I was just glad he is alright.

I just heard some clips from that show this morning. Flying away in a balloon might have been the best thing that coulda happened to that kid. :saywhat:
The kid puking live on the Today Show was a nice touch. :saywhat:

I am calling shenanigans.
Seconded. From the get go I have thought this is a huge scam/fraud from a bunch of attention whores and almost posted something to that effect yesterday while the ballon was still in the air, but didn't want to seem crass when potentially I was wrong and some poor kid's life hung in the balance.
Anyone who does shows like wife swap or any of those other type reality shows (or Dr. Phil or Springer) automatically has a screw loose as far as I am concerned and it is not too much of a jump to think once their 15 minutes of fame are up they try something to extend it.
By the way, the below is part of the transcript from their appearance on CNN last night:
Dad: Did you hear us calling your name at any time?
Falcon: Umm-hmm.
Dad: You did?
Mom: You did?
Dad: Then why didn’t you come out?
Falcon: Um...you guys said...that, um...we did this for a show.
Dad: Yeah.
Mom: No.
Dad: Mmmm...

on the “Today” show on NBC, Falcon vomited on camera.
Wow, imagine that, stress has some negative effects on kids. Yesterday wasn't enough so they had to drag the whole fam damily to NYC to make the rounds...? Looks like the douche bag parents are so desperate to get their 15 minutes of exposure that they don't care what the effect on their kids is. :shakehead

I was all for believing this was truly real until I saw the video of the balloon coming loose from its tether and taking off. If this was an accident, how on earth did it "just so happen" to be completely captured on film? :irked:
On the other hand, my five year old would so totally do this. He actually put his K-8 school in lockdown last week because he decided he didn't want to be there any more, so he just left. That was fun.:eek::eek:

The 6 year old, climbed into the 'balloon' and secured himself enough for the dad to beleive he was in there? BS. It didn't even look like there was a rigid structure underneath. These people are too much. Next!

Now a student of the dad is claiming he has proof it is a hoax, that the dad had the same idea to pitch to reality TV. Busted!
Even if that balloon could get off the ground with a 40lb 6 year old, I don't think it would have lifted so quickly. Immediately they assumed the kid was in the balloon. Way too contrived.

Also when the balloon was flying it did not look like there was a load on it. It was spinning slowly around the deflated part.

I'm with Napoleon. When I was listening to this on radio and heard, "The balloon is down but we still have a MISSING CHILD OUT THERE," I thought it was all baloney. It sounded like the "reporter" was in on the whole thing, trying to sensationalize it. But, as Nappy said, on the offchance I would come across totally as crass and besides that wrong, I decided to step away from the keyboard.
I see that they are now considering criminal charges against the family. Hope they stick and don't blow away in the wind.
As expected...

I'm soooo sorry. (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20091223/ap_on_re_us/us_balloon_boy)
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The parents who carried out the balloon boy hoax were sentenced to jail Wednesday and given strict probation conditions that forbid them from earning any money from the spectacle for four years.
Richard Heene was sentenced to 90 days in jail, including 60 days of work release that will let him pursue his job as a construction contractor while serving his time. His wife, Mayumi, was sentenced to 20 days in jail.
Richard Heene choked back tears as he said he was sorry, especially to the rescue workers who chased down false reports that his 6-year-old son had floated away in a balloon on Oct. 15. It was a stunt designed to generate attention for a reality TV show.
wonder how this worked?
Once the parents were brought in for questioning, Richard Heene feigned sleep during the lie-detector test, claiming it was some sort of diabetic episode, Lewis said.

Brilliant move! Its not like the police could go to his doctor and pull all his medical records to show all his past blood tests had come back with normal sugar levels and that he had never before reported a similar episode, thus allowing them to charge him with yet another offense of some type.
