Well, I am stuck at home with a possible case of the swine flu (relatively mild), so I had the opportunity to watch the last two rounds on Speed. Wow, it would appear that the economy has seriously damaged these two series. At Road Atlanta, the TCs only had 14 cars on the grid and 19 at Laguna Seca, including a 6 to 10 year old Civic. I can think back to a few years ago when these series had very healthy grids and a great mixture of competing makes.
Personally, I believe these series, or something similar, could be very successful in North America, but with the Daytona Mafia literally controlling every racing series (two or four wheel) in North America, it will never happen. There has been a lot of discussion in another thread about the current pony cars and racing, and I really think the American public would embrace a series with cars that look like the street cars and are very high performance. I doubt anyone would every try to start something like this, but I would be an instant fan. Mustang, Corvette/Camaro, Challenger/Viper, GT-R, Porsche, Audi R8 perhaps, Ferrari, the combinations are endless.
