sometime around 1996, did some space aliens arrive and abduct all the open wheel fans?

Nope. It was just one ahole from Indianer who chased them all away. :shakehead

according to certain websites/people, it is improper to blame that one ahole from Indianner for the demise of open wheel racing. In the climate of such thought policing the only plausible reason for the demise is mass abduction by space aliens.

So, Agents Mulder and Skully are in charge of finding the missing fans and hooking them up with a decent product?

Of course not! Saint Tony has not done one wrong thing in his entire life.

Imagine how much worse it would be if TG did nothing . . . .

(I think that is the current state of the art gomer-logic)

Bush's fault.

I thought he got the "blameless life" exception at birth just like Tony?

Surfer's ratings were never great. Football season makes next day tape delay races pretty low priority for a lot of folks. The only actual bit of data I found in my file on ratings was a .72 on ESPN in 2001 which represented 572,000 households at that time.

Surfers also used to be a spring race. Long time ago.
