Princess Sparklepony Permapout brings her new found rubbin' and racin' skills to the Camping World Grand Pricks at The Glen.
Hey, I'm pretty busy this weekend with my son starting his summer vacation time here today. All your help with this thread will be appreciated.

My dad won free GA tickets for this weekend at the Glen. I know I should be doing my duty for god & futility and going, but it's not going to happen. I can only make one day, and the idea of schlepping down the 90 on a holiday weekend makes me stabby. Not to mention the allowable items policy at the Glen makes any Champcar policies into the next coming of Sodom & Gomorrah.
Foytility, Futility, Leaguetility, :tony:tility...gettin' pretty late in the game. It's really too easy to find the "tility" these days. Here's what I'm gonna do. If I see any UNtility I'm going to point it out. If P-pony outqualifies or out races Simona? I'm going to point it out. If ANYbody worms their way into a starting grid or race result ahead of a Team Chip, Penske or Andretti, I'll call that a good thing. If nobody gets hurt by a stupid NASCRAPESQUE move I'll give it a  If the safety team does a great job in a serious situation, I'll applaud. If I see expertise, class or skill, even in the vintage racers these people are forced to use, I'll identify it. If you don't hear from me again on this topic...I guess you'll know what DIDN'T happen:\

I try to care but it just doesn't work. I actually watched the whole Long Beach race but all it did was make me sad.

Isn't $10k for Pole kinda lame? I really don't know.

Clearly an unsafe spot on the track. That transition to grass is too severe. ISC fail.

Maybe, but it seems he didn't even try to turn. I've seen countless cars go off there with different results. Seriously wadded up the car.

I've watched that clip a few times and it still doesn't make sense. Viso really doesn't seem to turn at all and goes straight into the guard rail. What did he manage to break jumping in the grass?

What did he manage to break jumping in the grass?Dunno, but he must have broken something when he launched out of the grass. Lucky to be unhurt

from AR1
Word is what caused EJ Viso to crash in the morning practice was the fact that he bent the skid block on the car when he transitioned from the asphalt runoff area to the grass - the skid block folded under and got his car airborne long enough that Viso was along for the ride and he whacked the Armco clear on the other side of the track. The car was done for the weekend and the KV Racing team did not have time to finish preparing the backup car so he set no time in afternoon qualifying, and hence will start dead last on Sunday.
http://auto-racing.speedtv.com/article/indycar-open-wheel-notebook-watkins-glen/
E.J. Viso knocked all four corners off his car during Saturday practice, destroying his car and missed qualifying. It was the fifth time this year that KV Racing has totaled a car and there have been 17 accidents involving Mario Moraes, Sato and Viso, who was coming off a career-best third at Iowa…….
Someone's going to think its cheaper to float a racing series than own a team in the IRL.

The Park Milka movement is gaining momentum. From what I've read, 7 drivers complained about her after yesterday's session, and her qualifying speed was slower than all the Indy Cars AND all but one of the Lights cars. Is the Citgo check really worth all the heinous she could cause?

Maybe Citgo should just sponsor the pace car... or jet dryers.

Yes, but that is becoming too common. Gotta finish a race.
So apparently there was an IRL race this weekend. It's the old metaphysical conundrum. If no one attended or watched the broadcast did it happen?
A couple of things I stumbled on by following the youtube links: I did not know JD McDuffie was run through either by a fence post or steering column. JFC. And a Jo Bonnier documentary (http://www.cloudsouth.co.nz/films/sftgr/) that looks interesting.
Anyway, Rodeo Randy's continued pumping of the sunshine (http://sports.yahoo.com/irl/news;_ylt=AtYS24RnneRNNN2IgkUcOPzRv7YF?slug=ap-irlnotebook) after crossing the event horizon read like the ravings of a mad man.

How much was that per TG "checkbook" And were is my check?
From TV pictures NOONE was at the race. I would have gone in a heartbeat years ago(or today) if it had been a CART race. But now I DVR and sleep through it.

I wasn't sure if there was more metal showing in the stands or the Armco along the track. :gomer: :shakehead

The Buffalo Snooze says that there was "modest attendance" with more people sitting on the berms along the track than in the stands themselves.
I call BS. At some places, it looked like you could have shot a cannon through the place and not hit anyone.

Stands ? Only Nastards sit in the stands for a road race. I was there, and attendance was a little better than last year, with noticeably more campers. Saw a lot of old sports car shirts. Mindycar sure ain't no CART (or even Champcar), but the Glen rocks.

That's quite a benign characterization. It's not that the fans mysteriously lost their sense of direction and wandered away. They were driven off by someone consumed by a need for personal control and a total disregard for the survival of the racing. He told us he brought a hammer to work every day and he did. He swung the hammer at CART, he swung the hammer at the fans, the media, promoters, his family and his finally at his own testicles. Problem is, wrecking things is a lot easier than building things....
Sorry Randy, I don't think adding yet another race in Vegas is going to fix what TG broke. If the rumors are true and you are adding multiple chassis and engines for the future then it's a baby step in the right direction. You might want to also make sure that your handful of US drivers have race seats for the full season.
