View Full Version : N.E. US Weather
I always said I liked this area because we have 4 distinct seasons. Perhaps a little less summer would be nice. :saywhat:

I thought the gauge might be off. The local banks had anywhere from 103F to 108F.

102F at 6:30PM, 105F tomorrow. With the exception of 3 mid-80s days last week, it's been 96+ for over 3 weeks here.
.8" of rain since June 1 isn't helping things any. :irked:
Sounds like riot weather.

73 degrees with 44% relative humidity in my house with nothing more going on than open windows. All things being equal it should be hotter than than but it ain't and I'm not sad.

The run of hot days in the last few years has been unreal. I hate to put the AC on usually, especially since I have a lot of casement windows, but when it is not going below 70 at night and with my back room, which has a lot of windows right at the south-west corner of the house and so gets real hot on days like this I have no choice but to keep the blinds drawn all day long and the AC on just so the house is not constantly over 80 (and usually a lot more).

A chill is in the air. We've only made it to 101F so far.
Even better, the farm next to the office has decided to apply fertilizer today. No chemicals, the natural kind.

Yeah, I wasn't complaining either. Now that the switch has been flipped summer has arrived. It'll take a day or two to get to you I imagine. Tomorrow will be 98 here.

Well my city decided yesterday/today would be a great time to screw up the garbage pick up. Instead of doing my Tuesday pick up on Wednesday as they said because of a long weekend, they actually showed up on Tuesday. From the looks of how many cans were out when I got home yesterday I would say 80% of my neighbors will have 2 weeks worth of garbage, much of it sitting through a long period of 90+ temps (in 13 years of living here it was the first time I complained to city hall).

Our local city leaders decided to ban garbage cans from being visible outside domiciles, and will be enforcing the new law with a $100 daily fine starting in September. :saywhat: I've had to move a can outside on a few occasions due to smelly garbage (like when our freezer defrosted while we were in OCNJ for 2 weeks one summer). :yuck:

Dando,
I always keep my can in the garage right by the back door which is part of the reason I was not happy. That and it already was smelling 2 days ago from 3 bags of beetles I put in it on the 3rd collected from those beetle traps that I set up a week and a half ago when a plague of them descended on my house. It will be mind numbing bad by next Tuesday morning.

(like when our freezer defrosted while we were in OCNJ for 2 weeks one summer). :yuck:
A few weeks ago the wife cleaned some "past due" goods from the freezer including I think a "free turkey" and other animal things. A few days later I thought perhaps Jimmy Hoffa had turned up in my driveway, maggots and all. And the garbage wasn't getting picked up for most of a week.
I double bagged it in construction bags, while retching all the time, then hauled it to the back of my property and hoped the prevailing wind didn't change.
This is twice she has cleaned the freeze the day AFTER the garbage gets picked up. I didn't remind sweety that it is the LAST time she uses that schedule. The things a husband and dad must do. Of course Trevor is getting old enough... hmmmm.
Special thanks to RaceGrrl for being conscious of doing freezer clean-outs only the night before trash pick-up. :)

Well, we got up into the mid 60's today. Might start a fire in the fireplace to take the chill off.

So do they. I think it's scheduled for next Tuesday this year.

I don't mind a little hotter weather in short doses. Last year we were hardly able to enjoy the pool because it was so cool.
77F this AM and my 6yo says it is chilly out. ;)
Wind shift is bringing cooler temperatures for today (90F), but the humidity is on the way up.
The wind shift is also blowing in smoke odors from the 4000 acre fire at Fort Dix (http://www.trentonian.com/articles/2010/07/08/news/doc4c35c584be4e6468530291.txt).

Ank, you are in Texas, right? I read a quote about Texas the other night from Gen. Philip Sheridan about the heat in Texas and it went something like "If I owned Texas and Hell I would rent out Texas and live in Hell".

What is up with the five year old metabolism anyway? It is 78 degrees last night and my son is happily sleeping wrapped up in a heavy micro fleece blanket and 3/4 buried under stuffed animals. I almost got heat stroke looking at him.
A lightweight sheet doesn't offer the same level of monster protection as a sturdy blanket and assorted stuffed animal cover.
What is up with the five year old metabolism anyway?:
I thought it was the change from the 90F AM's, but you might be right. Last night, I covered him with a down comforter and he still wanted the extra fleece blanket!
