Sounds good.

There is a film in production at the moment about the life of Ayrton Senna, which is due to come out in cinemas in the Autumn.

I was the first journalist to see it and I’ve now seen it twice, the most recent occasion with Martin Brundle, Senna’s rival from British F3 days, shortly before the Silverstone weekend. He liked it as much as I did.

It is an absolutely fantastic film and I’m sure that not only are F1 fans going to be blown away by it, but it will cross-over into the mainstream with many non F1 fans, especially women, drawn to the poignant human interest story at the heart of it.

Who's distributing it? I'd actually pay money to see this in the theater, provided I don't have to fly to NY or LA. :tony:

Wasn't there supposed to be a live action film in production a few years ago? Or did that just kinda die out?

I wonder if Prost will go to the premier?

I would bet yes. He was his pallbearer and always spoke decently about Senna in interviews.

Thanks for posting that OC. He was my first and last 'hero'. My home is still adorned with his images and an F1 weekend doesn't go by that I don't reflect back on what a huge impact he made on me as a young race fan.

I can't barely stand the wait until I can see this movie.

There is supposed to ba another motorsports film in pre-production that would be interesting if it actually gets made: the story of the the Ford v. Ferrari battle culminating in the 1966 Lemans victory for Shelby American with the GT40 Mk II. Based on the book Go Like Hell by A.J. Baime published in 2009. A pretty good read even if you lived through the period reading about all of it in the racing magazines two months after everything happened...

Kill da wabbit! Kill da wabbit! The only Wagner I've ever really enjoyed. What's Opera, Doc? is a Chuck Jones classic.

There are benefits to living in Utah. I got my tickets to see Senna at the Sundance film festival. There are six showings, the four in Park City are sold out but the two in Salt Lake still have some tickets left.

Can't help ya with the airfare:eek: But general public tickets go on sale in about a week. There will probably be tickets available for the two SLC showings. They're $15- each. The shows are Jan 22 & 29 in downtown SLC. If anyone is going to be passing through town on those weekends I can try to get tickets ahead of time.

It is a good movie, rather sad of course and I had forgotten how screwed up Brazil was in the early 1990s. One thing that I thought was confusing was the movie starts off showing him running karts then poof he is driving in a Toleman at Monaco. There is no mention of his time in Formula Fords or F3. The director said that there simply wasn't time for it as the producers were looking for a 90 minute piece. He said that he really needed three hours to do his entire career.

It was an admittedly unabashed pro-Senna tale, with a rather cherry picked set of moments shown. It totally ignored most of his more ******* moments. In that way I found it a little disappointing as, at least in my view, Senna wasn't a saint. He had good points and bad. The film really downplayed or ignored the bad.

The real focus of the film was Senna vs Prost/Balestre and Senna becoming the heart & soul of Brazil. It is interesting talking to people who saw the film without knowing who Senna was going into the film. They were amazed and were left wondering how come we don't hear anything about Formula 1.

It is a good film if not the most fair and balanced thing out there. If you're an Alain Prost fan you're going to hate it. But really if you're a Prost fan you've got you own issues anyway...

Thanks for the review. I absolutely can not wait to see it. As the self proclaimed worlds biggest Senna fan, I've read every book I believe has been written on the man. The general consensus across the board is that he was a very private person that many interpreted as arrogance, coupled with his win at all cost attitude, I can understand why there are those who dislike him. That said, what impresses me is that he was so respected by his peers; drivers, engineers. senna had an unbelievable sixth sense for knowing where he needed to be, how he needed to position himself in order to obtain his goals.
On track his peers marveled at how he was able to put his car where others wouldn't dare.
But then there was his living legend status around the globe. For any sports figure to transcend into Demi-god is truly phenomenal i.e. Pele, Jordan etc. To this day Senna is revered in his home country.
A new co-worker from Brazil joined us for lunch his first day recently. After introducing myself I came out of left field with "where were you when Senna died?". Without hesitation, without any evidence of surprise he answered "I was watching with my father and we cried for 3 days along with the rest of my country." I actually expected his reply.
A remarkable driver, incredible story of focus and drive. Privileged? Arrogant? Sure. But he had the talent to back it up.
I haven't seen anything but positive reviews on this movie. senna deserved this.
