Given I can't find the other thread we used to have (and I tried every search term I could think of)...time to start again unless the mods can merge if they can find!
For me today it's the Rance Allen Group's self titled album from 1972 including this gem, 'Up Above My Head'
fABPu21Y-vg
I've been listening to The Steeldrivers. They're... Americana. Ok, some might say Bluegrass but the writing a and lead vocal give a bit more edge than your typical Bluegrass.
PsI0brwSCf4
I came across them because it's a project of one of my favorite blues players, Mike Henderson, who writes and plays Mandolin for the Steeldrivers. His other projects have been country (solo) and blues (with the Bluebloods).
YwhNk55gpxI
Unfortunately the lead vocalist of the Steeldrivers, Chris Stapleton, did two albums and then decided to quit to focus on his very average rock band.
Lady GaGa and Katy Perry.

Lady GaGa and Katy Perry.

Had an argument the other day with a 20-something who claimed the 80s never produced a single artist or album better than Lady Gaga and "Fame Monster." I countered with the first thing that crossed my mind, "Brothers In Arms" by Dire Straits. His one-word answer, "Who?", told me everything I needed to know.

I love that people are totally oblivious that Lady GaGa ripped off Madonna's entire persona and is somehow original.

A friend of mine just loaned me a CD by an old bluegrass/blues group called the Allen Brothers, from the 1920s. Good stuff, but sorry, no youtube video of them is known to exist. :D
Edit: I first heard of these guys in a Jerry Garcia interview, as one of his influences.

I love the song "Brothers in Arms." They used it on an episode of the West Wing. It fit the scene perfectly.
As to what I'm listening to lately, Gloriana (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qhEHjlsRQH4) and the latest Glee soundtrack (specifically the Journey medley (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ymi52UbGEZM)) have been on repeat.

Before I had my punk cred down ;), I remember a girl showing up for school with a mohawk, a big safety pin through her face and a purple and green Naked Raygun shirt. I remember thinking "I don't know who Naked Raygun is, but I'm gonna' find out".
And I did. :D
I don't know if I have a dream lineup, but they and the Cro-Mags would be on it. I still think Age of Quarrel is one of the best front-to-back punk records ever made.
Pennywise's drummer is great.
[Edit] The Meatmen, too?!?
My musical taste is varied, but I guess I lack the official punk credentials. :)
We saw Great Big Sea at Wolf Trap in Virginia on Sunday night. They are in heavy rotation at the moment.
Also, Vampire Weekend's first album is getting a priority during grass cutting operations. That replaced the Crash Test Dummies "The Ghosts that Haunt Me" played during mid-summer lawn work.

Deep Purple, Come Taste the Band remastered disc 1, and remixed disc 2.
Ritchie Blackmore left and was replaced by funkifusion James Gang guitarist Tommy Bolin. The result was a funk rock and soul masterpiece. Although Blackmore is my number one musician still, I come back to this album more than any other in the Purple catalog. It's the freedom, man!

That was more popular then Short Skirt. Again, I never knew who did this song. I kind of figured when I saw they had a half a dozen or so albums spread out over something like 15 years they must have some good.
They will definitely be part of my Christmas day order of CDs from Amazon I want that I did not get as gifts and I will be listening to this on the slopes in a few weeks.

Yeah, that's probably good advice if you're coming from "Electric Worry." Their earlier stuff has a lot less of the bluesy vibe and was straight-up guitar/bass/drums/vocals- no organs, no harmonicas.

No doubt. 40s/50s big band music is awesome.
In honor of the thread title I'll reprise Chris Stapleton, who I mentioned a few of years ago in this thread. (http://www.offcamber.net/forums/showthread.php?16446-What-are-you-listening-to-now&p=279064&viewfull=1#post279064) Stapleton has moved on from his dalliance with corner bar arena rock and back into country. This one is a bit too mainstream country for my taste but I can't begrudge the guy because that's where he's made his living as a song writer.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZJ970yoPMd0
Speaking of song writers, Missy and I were fortunate to catch Kevin Welch here in Columbus a few days ago. Like Stapleton and Henderson from my earlier post, Welch has a number of hit songs as a writer but is little known outside of Nashville.
