looking to replace my 12yr old yardman with a self propelled mower. after some research i'm leaning towards the toro "personal pace" mower #20332 http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1vZ1xj1/R-100659628/h_d2/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=10051&catalogId=10053
curious if any ocer's have this mower or any other recommendations?
ps...
how do i check spelling here? oc underlines misspelled words but i can't find the spell check option???
thanks
I have a Toro that is nearly 20 years old. Starts first time, every time. Its a basic mower, no self propelled but its indestructible. I'll never buy anything other than a Toro.

We've got a 25 year old Brigga & Stratton. It has spent most of its life running on left over two stroke fuel from the kart and it's indestructible.

Mine is built out of many mowers. Don't know what brand the tub is. Old Briggs engine that has lived on Mobil One drain oil and unleaded fuel. It caught on fire once so it's kinda charred and there is some stagger because the wheels are not the same size. Suckers been going for over 20 years and mulches anything less than 1/2 inch diameter. Hit a stump once and broke the key, but that was the only downtime. I have to propel it myself. Go Briggs:thumbup:

If you are using Firefox, there is an add on called dictionary. If you install it, it underlines misspelled words and if you right click on that word it displays a list of words you might have meant to use.

thanks, never thought to right click.
my yardman is a brigs and will be kept as a backup if i do get the toro. the toro weighs about the same with the self propel and most the reviews are good so it's just a matter if i buy now or wait till next season.

I've had that mower for two summers now. No complaints but if you're a bit of a poofter it's a little heavy when you're dragging it backwards. The "Personal Pace" thing works really well- you could probably mow your lawn at a dead run if you were so inclined.
You'd be happy with it, I'm sure.

What? You're not buying a Honda?
Sorry DM, but I think I win for the most unhelpful post. :tony:
Back when they were involved with auto racing, I bought a Honda. The self-propelled transmissions are (were?) crap. The failure rate is approx. 100%, I believe.

Well, I have a Sears Craftsman 22" self-propelled with a B&S engine (one pull start, no priming). This one replaced a Craftsman that seized up a year after the propelling unit was replaced. :irked: Anyway, few months after the new mower was acquired, the propeller belt slipped off a few times, but after a few modifications using a hammer :D the problem was resolved. Otherwise it has run great. I don't think you can go wrong with a Toro, but they are pricey (hence why I went the Craftsman path).

What he said - minus the self-propelled thing - I've got the big rear wheel one. Starts on the first pull every time. Seems bulletproof.

My mower is a 20 something year old South American powered by cerveza. Not sure of the exact year/model. Does a decent job. :)
Ditto the Craftsman/B&S story. Had one for 15 years with nothing but an oil change every year (or maybe every two or three :o) an no problems. Got a self propelled same/same when we got the new place.
No problems in five years but I really only used it much for a year before I discovered that without a rider I'd be mowing pretty continuously during the summer. Or it seemed that way.
I'm still impressed with how easily it starts even when it hasn't been used for weeks or months.
