Plainfield, Illinois... Former Indy Lights race winner Geoff Boss and Dale Coyne Racing announce today their plans to run the 2003 Bridgestone Presents the Champ Car World Series powered by Ford beginning with this weekend's event at Laguna Seca.

Looks like the Cross Pens family money came through again. While he's no Alex Barron, Memo Gidley, Joey Hand or Buddy Rice, he certainly can't be any worse than anyone else Coyne has had this year. Those of us who wanted more Americans, we've doubled the number for Laguna at least.

This is weird. I thought of him yesterday for no reason whatsoever.

I think I may be psychotic. ;)

And that, ladies and gentlemen, makes the 20 car minimum set by Laguna Seca.

Actually, I'm not sure LS has a 20 car minimum. I know a couple tracks do, and I'm just guessing that, since we suddenly have 20 cars, LS is one of the tracks. :gomer:

Does anyone besides me think of something other than Laguna Seca when just the initials LS are present? Like... LightSpeed Univ. or somethin'?

Be interesting to see what directions things go with this quote.

I think Boss is the new driver for the car formerly driven by Yoong and Salles. I don't think this is an additional car on the grid, so we're standing pat at 19.

I'd rather Fogerty getting that ride, but hey... beggars can't be choosers.

I too think we are still at 19 but a stronger 19 then two weeks ago.

Boss is a equal or improvement to the either coyne car.

Herta is a hugh improvement to Lemairie

Something to note. Most press releases on CART dot com say the car number that a driver is driving and the Boss doesnt say which # he will be driving #19 or #11 so maybe salles is still in for LS and Joel is sitting this one out...

Did'nt this Andy Boss guy (or a brother) flog around a Lights car for like three seasons?

This should guarentee at least 10 more tickets sold....

Who else did you have in mind? Who else can fund the ride and meet the requirements? I understand you have a problem with is reality but it is your problem. Reality doesn't care.

Ziggy Andy and Geoff are brothers. They drove for the Lucas Motorsports Lights team (racing in CORR off-road trucks now, I believe). Geoff was definitely the better of the two, winning at Toronto one year. He was good on road courses, but completely scared $*#&less on ovals. Chris Lucas told me that himself.

Peter, I dont have any "requirements" and will leave this one alone. I think Coyne is a team which is out to lunch, and would accept anyone's check.

You "MAY be psychotic"!? You forget, I met you at RA once! And, "...he's good on road courses but scared s******s on ovals"? I'm liking this guy already!! (actually I've seen him race before and think this is a good thing for CART, though I have to echo some of the Coyne sentiments.)

When did you return from the planet Xenon? Coyne has always been a rent-a-ride operation.

The good news here is that CART rides are now cheap enough for American ride buyers. Whether the price they're getting is enough to keep the doors open for next season is another question.

Maybe next we'll see Memo running with $20 bills taped to the sidepods.

Geoff Boss had an odd career. He showed a few flashes of potential in Lights but never gained any consistancy. Expecting him to come in mid-season and run his first Champ car race after two or three years out of the car is producing predictable results.

Geoff Boss is even slower than Gualter Salles. A fit guy on a paddock bike could lap him. But apparently his name is easy to pronounce, his geneology is faultless, and the cheque cleared.

Could we get him to change his name to "Jeff" so he will sound more American and less wealthy? Could we buy him some driving lessons too?

I support Dale Coyne in his Minardi-like efforts but surely an ad in a magazine read by Speed World Challenge guys would produce inquiries from someone faster than Jeff Boss.

So....

Geoff is not "American-sounding" ? I don't get that.

Neither does my son Geoffrey. (a good CART fan at age 7)

The spelling of Geoff's name is just one more reason to snipe.

Why even bother responding to the pretend journalist's comments? Its not like she actually backs up her statements. Hmm, wouldn't that fit the description of a troll?

That's a great idea and while we're at it let's get Patrick Carpentier to change the spelling of his name to Carpawnte eh' so he sounds more Canadian and less French!  :saywhat: :shakehead

Tawnee would be faster than Geoff Boss. But I don't think that Kate would approve.

"I support Dale Coyne in his Minardi-like efforts but surely an ad in a magazine read by Speed World Challenge guys would produce inquiries from someone faster than Jeff Boss."

Absolutely.

You could probably take the first third of both the Touring Car and GT World Challenge field, and they most probably would take up the first half of any current CART or IRL field.

Many of those guys have ten times more "seat time" than any driver in CART and most certainly the IRL.

It's too bad we'll never know the reality of your speculation. I agree that it is a shame that many very talented racers will never get the break they might deserve, but your prediction of the Touring and GT guys filling the first half of a CART field is a bit much. And having ten times the seat time is way too much. If they had ten times the seat time, why are they stil where they are?

Unfortunately for many of them, reaching the top tiers of OW racing often times requires more than talent. Sometimes $$$ and most certainly salesmanship help.

And as a side note, the series' you and Kate mentioned have fenders.
