View Full Version : Plain Dealer -- "Hummergate continues"

Beats the heck out of my first car. And second, and third, and fourth...
(And you thought this was going to be a thread about Monica Lewinsky.) ;)
For a second there, I thought it was a story about departed irl marketing guru, magical Bob Rief. :D

Yes Rabbit, I thought it was going to be about Bill Clinton.
My theory is that they are going to find out that it is a bank laon and it turn out that the bank bent their own credit worthyness rules to make the loan, but did it on the hope that they get a ton of business out of the family in the future.

Even so, it was a dumb thing for his mom to do. It's better to even avoid the appearance of impropriety.
And FWIW, when my brother and I played high school hoops, whenever we got home after a game, our parents made us clean all three bathrooms in the house and take out all the trash, just to keep us humble. I don't think LeBron has anyone keeping him humble.:(

Rabbit, your just jealous he got a hummer and you didn't.
I looked for a link to a picture that was in the Akron Beacon Journal and Clev. PD of James playing with a radio controlled Hummer before last nights game. He knows how to play the press like a fiddle.
This guy agrees with what I speculated above

Pluto pretty much nailed it.

Now tell me that James isn't playing with the press when he shows up to a game ahead of time and plays with a radiocar Hummer.

Apparently James does not drive the hummer as well as he drives the lane.

For whatever its worth.

And lastly the web site the Plain Dealer is posted on actually has a forum on nothing but James.

What a circus. :shakehead
The one I feel sorry for is LeBron. It sounds like he's getting some good guidance, especially from his mother.

I wonder if they would toss him (and therefore his team) out of the tourney this year as punishment. Just goes to show, its too much to ask one of these kids to act like an adult. On second thought, most adults these days would take the gifts also.

Just announced, James has been stripped of his amateur status, and the team will forfeit the last game it played.

They wanted to nail the guy, they finally did. It was a witchhunt.
Had he been a hotshot Caucasian golfer and his folks bought him a 50K Lexus no one would have blinked.

Right.
The fact that he's an idiot, broke a rule and was subsequently caught is nothing less than overt racism.
Get a grip. Witches don't exist, stupid kids do. Everyone is always looking to knock the top guy down. Had he decided to walk the straight and narrow, not giving his detractors any ammunition, he wouldn't be in this jam. If I was one of his teammates, I'd be more pissed than anyone. He most likely cost those other kids a chance at finishing #1, and they're not going to be millionaires in a few months.
He is a moron of the highest order.

He's a 17 or 18 year old KID, for pete's sake.
KID.
There are plenty of other stupid kids out there... their schools just aren't making big bucks off of them.

I don't know about you, but I wasn't that stupid when I was 17. It's not like he was unaware of the rules after Hummergate.
Again - moron.

Thats total BS.
He was kicked off because AFTER "Hummergate" broke he then went out and accepted free clothing worth $600 or 700. He already knew exactly what the rule was and then went out and broke it.
He's a moron, and because he is so high profile someone placed a call to one of the reporters on his beat. Its her job to follow up. Once she did, and the story came out the state athletic association had no choice.

I really do feel sorry for them. It would be nice if they still managed to win the championship.

State Athletic associations are rarely concerned about "the children".
They're more concerned with their pocketbooks and their egos.
(Well, in Indiana anyways. Why else destroy the state basketball tournament and save all seats between the 40's at the football championships for their families?)
Cut LeBron some slack. I've talked to the reporter from the Plain Dealer that covers LeBron. He says he's really a good kid, but is being completely misused by his mother. She is the problem.
I know what he did in taking the jerseys was wrong and that he knew it was wrong. But lay off. It's not like none of you never did anything in high school that you knew was wrong.

Where are all the adults through this nonsense? Most often, they were feeding his stardom. His mother insisted on buying him the Hummer when she only needed to wait two more months.
His school moved his games to a larger arena and agreed to put his games on pay-per-view.
It let coach Dru Joyce II barnstorm around the country for competition and, naturally, appearance fees.
Adults representing shoe companies wrestled over him.
Basketball's luminaries, beginning with Michael Jordan, sought him out instead of letting him be a high school kid.
Everywhere, there were TV cameras and magazine covers and newspaper headlines chronicling his greatness. Everywhere, there were people treating him special and cashing in on him. He was a money player, all right.
It's a wonder he didn't want two Hummers to carry home 200 jerseys.
Now he can have both as soon as he signs a shoe deal. But he can't buy back what he cherished most and sadly lost.
Bingo.
