My friends, we are living in the golden age of automobiles.
When you have multiple options on cars with 300hp, 400hp and even 500hp, that qualify Federal Emission standards and still get up to 30 MPG on the highway, then you can see how far things have come.
Heck, you can get a 6cyl Mustang with a 6spd that gets 30MPG and goes 0-60 in less than 7 secs.... Some Honda Accords have 271HP and you can even get a Hyundai Sonata TURBO with 274HP that gets over 30MPG...

Sure they weigh alot more, but those are some serious performance #s !:thumbup:

Check out the current edition of Hot Rod where somebody built a 1979 Z28 and put a current Corvette crate motor in it.

I'd love to do something like that with an early 60's A-body Mopar (~2200lb) and a current 360.

The weight is on purpose. Either add a bunch of weight, or add a bunch of aero down force or else anything over 140 and you're flying like an IndeeeeeeCar. :gomer:

The best car out there right now IMO, the MP4-12C, is only 1300kg / 2866 lbs. Chassis is 81 kg / 178 lbs. :eek:

A vintage body on a chassis with modern suspension, brakes and steering and with a crate engine installed is a great way to go. A Z28 with a LS7 dry sump, some Brembos and coilovers would be all kinds of fun. :D

I've read about a few vendors that do that with old muscle. The problem is finding the chassis in decent shape and not having to pay six figures for it. I think it was back in the mid 90's when someone, may have even been Ford themselves, took 'stangs from the 60's, updated the suspension with poly bushings, disc brakes etc and threw a 5.0 V8 in it.

I doubt that the flexible flyer frames of some of those classics could meet modern standards for ride, handling, and crash protection.
