My local store has suddenly started carrying beef "back ribs" for ~$2/lb. Being a cheap bastard I can't resist. I'm expecting these to need long, slow cooking and they look a lot fattier than pork ribs. Anyone got a simple recipe for them that gets me started with something edible other than throwing in the crockpot slathered with commercial barbecue sauce?
No need to get all fancy here. I suggest braising them in beef broth and a simple seasoning of salt & pepper and onion and garlic powder (or just adding and onion and garlic to the broth). Don't sauce them until after they have been braised. Let them cook for a few hours @ 300 degrees or so, or the high setting on a crockpot. I made pork spareribs the other day cooking them @ 350 for ~3 hours in white wine and water (seasoned as I mentioned), and they turned out awesome. I also browned them a bit before I braised them.
