Happy to finally have the season underway. world exclusive story to be broke at sundays race about a 3D movie scheduled to open this summer. my guess is something to do with Cars 2. jeff gordon is " jeff gorvette". we also have "Francesco Bernoulli", he grew up in the shadow of the famous Monza race course in Italy where he and his friends would sneak onto the track and race the famous Pista di Alta Velocita bank turn. He was an instant winner on the amateur circuit and soon became an international Formula Racer champion. The ladies love Francesco’s open wheels, youngsters look up to his winning spirit and fellow racers envy his speed. But Francesco’s biggest fan is Francesco himself, as evidenced by his racing number. As the most famous race car in Europe, Francesco is a favorite to win the World Grand Prix, which also makes him McQueen’s chief rival.

By my math 107% of 1:25.854 is 1:31.864.
Jarno Trulli Lotus-Renault 1:30.829
Heikki Kovalainen Lotus-Renault 1:30.912
Jerome d'Ambrosio Virgin-Cosworth 1:32.106
Timo Glock Virgin-Cosworth 1:32.135
Vitantonio Liuzzi HRT-Cosworth No Time
Narain Karthikeyan HRT-Cosworth No Time
So neither Virgin would make the grid:shakehead

Neither Virgin, none of the Cosworths, and half or all of the Lotii.
How will the officials enforce the rule about only using the movable rear wing on the front straight?
Telemetry, TV, corner workers?
Seems silly. Why not just ban defensive use and only allow the overtaking to use it?

That drove me nuts too. Give 'em the wing, let 'em take the risk. The last thing F1 needs is another freaking rule that sounds like it was dreamed up at 4am after everyone was full of cold pizza.

Yes it got the drop down list of drivers all the way off to the left of the screen. Before it was kept more in the center so it would be seen on a 4x3 monitor. The overall video was better than before but the previous feed was an upconverted very high quality feed so the difference isn't as enormous as you might expect.

They already have those rules for have to be within a certain time (or was it distance) of the car in front to use it. I'd assume they could also use the system to limit where on track.
It's like a passing lane.
If a driver is within one second of the car in front when he enters turn 14 he will then be able to activate his rear wing two turns later at the entrance of the final corner.

Is KERS available everywhere? Can it be used with the rear wing?

The folks at Lotus determined that their set up wasn't correct for the conditions and the tires never got up to proper temperature. It is no warmer today so they had best get it fixed. They are looking squarely at 1.07% cut off.
And HRT is planning on actually participating in the next session...

All the teams have agreed that anyone outside 107% rule could start from the pitlane for the race.
Unless something changes that would be the Virgins and the HRTs:rolleyes:

Karthikeyan actually completes a lap. Even a second. Liuzzi made it four corners.
And the field needs to fix this. Petrov P5. Up is down. White is black. Cats are dogs.

Karthikeyan 17 seconds off of Vettel on his best lap.
Kovalainen, Trulli & Glock were with 107%.
D'Ambrosio missed by .3
And the HRTs:saywhat:

It isn't him, it is the car. It is utterly hopeless.
Reports have Luizzi losing the gearbox. Reports vary between minor glitch and total destruction.

If Karthikeyan can string a few laps together, he might get it down to only a ten second gap to P1. That'd be big.

I still think that cars eliminated in the first qualifying period should get an extra 45 minutes of testing or practice time at the following race.

So does anyone think Vettel could've pulled off a 1:23.979 in Q1 and knocked the Virgins below 107%?
I understand why they limit 107% to Q1, but I also don't think the fastest cars go their absolute fastest in Q1.
Crazy fix suggestion. Since they don't award points for qualifying, how about the "winner" of each session gets to move up 1 grid spot. They hand out 5 and 10 grid spot penalties, why not a bonus to move up? Only exception being no one can move up to P1.
So the rule:
1. Top driver in Q1 and Q2 sessions may advance 1 grid spot not to exceed P2.
I thought about averaging all times, but that's more complex from a spectator standpoint.
Karthikeyan was a second and change slower than Luizzi, so maybe he isn't as bad as Milky, but instead just a garden variety pay wanker.

considering vettel ran a 1:23.529 without touching the kers button i'd say anything is possible ;)
This is going to be one of those seasons where you ignore the top team and enjoy the close battles for best in class.

Hamilton's KERS failed on his last Q3 lap. There have been quite a few cases of the KERS flaking off in these sessions. Interesting that they can sometimes reset the system remotely and "fix" things without stopping.

The stewards have ruled that HRT is done for the weekend. No exemption will be given, see you in Malaysia.

That's shocking that they made a decision. I figured they would've put it to the teams to be the bad guys.
But I fully agree with them. When the SPEED crew talked about a possible exemption, all I could think of was they had a whole offseason and 3 practices. They didn't get on track during the offseason and wasted a lot of practice time. Maybe they'll roll off the trailers ready to drive in 2 weeks.

Any word on why Schumacher parked it?
