Sure took the range safety officer a while to implement the destruct. I am not sure he ever did or if the dynamic pressures just caused fuel to leak and catch fire all at once.

Also not clear from the video but did the payload eject and parachute? If so that's a cool idea.
The Russian designs do NOT employ any self-destruct charges. The Russian 'philosophy' to deal with an anomaly is to command the engines to shut off. However, that shut-off command cannot be issued until T+40 seconds after launch (the thinking being that they want to give the vehicle time to clear the launch pad).

Hence the reason this was a 'free flier', as it were. Vehicle breakup prior to impact was due to aerodynamic loads.

A private company is working on a mini shuttle to ferry astronauts to the ISS. They call it the Dream Chaser®.

On Saturday they dropped it from a helicopter at 12,500 feet to see if it could fly.
