saw a police chase today

about 20 squad cars chasing a murder suspect. They spun him out in front of me (across the intersection). As they fanned out to cover his escape, he managed to squeak through, went another 10 miles or so before they caught him.

They don't usually do this in IL., they usually let 'em go.

Anybody else ever see a chase live?

I've seen it here but it is nowhere near as dramatic. Usually just one car...

New (and very needed) pursuit policies. A couple weeks back we had two in county on the same weekend with multiple incidents of wrecked cars and mayhem. Two police officers hospitalized. Towns are cracking down - especially for traffic violators.

On the other hand, a murder suspect? Those policies are going to loosen up quite a bit.

Very dear friends in CA lost their teenage daughter 9 years ago in a police pursuit. The police were chasing an underage driver who had 'stolen' her mother's Rav4. It was a high speed chase through a residential section of town. Our friends' mini-van was broadsided. They removed their daughter from life support 3 days later.

Speeding out of control along 18th street, the Jeep slammed into another vehicle, flipped over several times and struck Jackson, her 40-year-old aunt and a 10-year-old boy. The woman and the child suffered non-life threatening injuries, but Jackson suffered head injuries that left her in grave condition, police said. She died Saturday night at University Hospital.

There was an episode of 'Cops' that showed a police pursuit involving multiple jursidictions all over town and on the freeway. It ended in a violent roll over of the suspects vehicle, the cops ripping him out of the car, and the freeway being shut down to remove the wreckage. As they went to commerical, an officer revealed the initial infraction that started the pursuit was a broken tail light or something equally minor. :laugh:
