I'd rather see LMS, but then I also enjoy examining the teeth of horses that people give me.

I'm not sure about HDnet but I know WRC is on HD Theater with better amounts of airtime than SPEED could ever offer. It could also have something to do with Alexander Rossi racing in Formula Renault and Conor Daly in GP3. Those are Americas two best shots at an F1 driver so there is some interest there.

I'm sure this is what's driving SPEED to add those series at least for this year. I hope they do for this very reason.

I want a good Yank in F1 again. I remember when Andretti toyed with F1 with Ferrari in the early 70s. I told my sceptical relatives that he'd kick serious butt with a good team for a full season. He proved me right half a decade later with Team Lotus :)

Engaged in many an argument with several of my SCCA road racing only nut bag friends who insisted Mario was an unworthy "roundy-rounder" who would go nowhere in Europe. They started to become believers after the '68 Can Am rain race at RA.:)

I haven't seen an F2 car in ages and I was a little taken aback by the chimneys on this car. Who knew?

Holy crap. There still is an F2 series? Forgot all about them after David Thackwell was the schiznits in the early 80s.

Somewhere. I've heard rumors. I'm not quite sure where.

Yes, Michael Thackwell. One of the best never to be's.
Mike Thackwell, wasn't it?
Mike is right for Thackwell.
Who the heck is the David from early 80s F2? Thatcher?
Some of those guys were really top shoes. Just not enough rough room at the top then. Ask Ziggy. He knows all this better than me.

The only "Dave" I found was Dave Scott - finished 17th in 1983 (http://www.formula2.net/F283_Tables.htm).
Look at championship standings from the mid-70s through the mid-80s. A real memory jogger.

This version of Formula 2 is designed to be a lower cost alternative to GP2, F3 and Renault World Series. When Max Mosley put out the tender for a new FIA F2 with single make car and single team concept (a la Barber Dodge Pro) Jonathan Palmer already had most of the pieces in place from his stillborn Super Formula Palmer Audi concept.
Williams designed and built chassis, Audi Turbo I-4 @450hp with overboost button. Faster than F3, slower than GP2.
Champion gets a Superlicense and an F1 test with Williams, runner up and 3rd get a GP2 test. So far it has proven better at producing GP2 drivers than F1 drivers.
