I'm curious which of UNL's new brothers voted to boot them.

However, the AAU’s membership review committee — headed by Larry R. Faulkner, president emeritus of the University of Texas at Austin — found that even if UNL research continued to grow at the same rate for another decade, it would still remain at the bottom of the AAU.

srsly though, if there's shenanigans, I want it outed, but doubt it (outside of some poser "boosters" buying dinner or something, not signed mini-helmets and jerseys for $40K), instead of whining about "too many kids to keep track of," the A.D. spends plenty of money on compliance to keep track of the idiots for them. And Mack and the AD keep a tight leash on the boosters close to the program too, Mack hates having to deal with them in the first place with his thin skin. UT & ND told the NCAA to crack down on compliance during conference musical chairs, and UT led the push against street agents this past year with OU as well. The only place you'll see Will Lyles and Brian Flenory is Stillwater and College Station. With the current admin, if anything was found it'd be reported (then again, I would've said same thing about Tressel, but Mack doesn't have the shady history he does either). Also, our current AD was the one who snitched on SMU and A&M back when, if there was something serious around, there'd be more rumors I would think from those programs looking for payback

Lyles is spilling his guts,
Lyles insists Oregon did not make a direct request or payment to steer recruits to Eugene. However, he now says Oregon did not pay him for his work as a traditional scout, but for his influence with top recruits and their families and his ability to usher prospects through the signing and eligibility process. That dual role as mentor to prospects and paid contractor to Oregon is believed to be a focus of the NCAA probe.
"I look back at it now and they paid for what they saw as my access and influence with recruits," Lyles said. "The service I provided went beyond what a scouting service should … I made a mistake and I'm big enough of a man to admit I was wrong."
Calls and text messages to Chip Kelly’s two cell phones were not returned.
...
Lyles said Oregonâs assistant director of football operations, Josh Gibson, had direct knowledge – and played an ancillary role – in Lyles helping Temple (Texas) High School star Lache Seastrunk petition to have his grandmother, rather than his mother, sign his national letter of intent with the Ducks in February 2010. Seastrunkâs mother, who expressed opposition to her son about attending Oregon, otherwise could have blocked the signing.
âIndirectly I played a pivotal role in [Seastrunk signing with Oregon],â Lyles said.
A call and text message to Gibson’s cell phone were not returned.
Lyles said Kelly and Oregon committed to becoming the first client for CSS prior to Lyles aiding Seastrunk with the letter-of-intent issue. Then, just after the guardianship switch, Lyles said Kelly instructed him to âfind out what the best paying service isâ and to bill Oregon that amount. When Lyles settled on the $25,000 figure, he said he called Kelly and Kelly personally approved it.
Eleven months passed – from March 2010 until February 2011 – before the Ducks requested a single written recruiting profile, Lyles said. And when that moment came, Lyles said the demand for the reports was sudden and emphatic, leading him to believe Oregon was âscramblingâ to establish that heâd provided legitimate traditional scouting services because they were aware of a Yahoo! Sports investigation. Previously, Lyles said he had provided scouting reports verbally in frequent calls with Oregon coaches.
âThey said they just needed anything,â Lyles said of the embarrassingly thin recruiting profiles that Oregon made public earlier this month. âThey asked for last-minute [stuff]. So I gave them last-minute [stuff] … I gave them, like, old stuff that I still had on my computer because I never thought that stuff would see the light of day.â
...
oregon = dirty
• In addition to working on Seastrunkâs national letter of intent, Lyles said he secured a study course at Sylvan Learning Center in 2009 for the then high school junior in an effort to help him with schoolwork and standardized testing. Lyles said Jeff Wood, the father of then University of Texas quarterback recruit Connor Wood, paid the $4,000-plus bill. Connor and Seastrunk were teammates on a 7-on-7 squad coached by Lyles. Jeff Wood declined comment when reached by Yahoo! Sports. Lyles said he personally asked Wood to help and Wood did so âout of the goodness of his heart.â He said he doesnât believe Wood was seeking to influence Seastrunkâs recruiting and said, to his knowledge, neither Oregon nor Texas knew of the tutoring.

Cam Newton won the Heisman after leading Auburn to the national title in a season marked by questions about his eligibility.
Interviews, insight and analysis from The Times on the competition and culture of college football.
Julie Roe Lach, the N.C.A.A.’s vice president for enforcement, made a presentation to the group, which included every men’s basketball coach, football coach and athletic director in the conference. When she opened up the room for discussion, Auburn’s football coach, Gene Chizik, raised his hand first.
He peppered Roe Lach with a flurry of questions about the N.C.A.A.’s investigation into Cam Newton and why the N.C.A.A. had not publicly announced that the investigation was over. Chizik complained that the inquiry’s open-ended nature had hurt Auburn’s recruiting and he followed up at least three times, leading to a testy exchange.
“You’ll know when we’re finished,” Roe Lach told Chizik, according to several coaches who were at the meeting. “And we’re not finished.”

Espn's conflict of interest in the Leach ordeal was and is sickening. Also, notice how differently they treat schools that they are in bed with (SEC and the ESPN Longhorns) vs other schools. Ethics in journalism. :yuck:
"ESPN never suspended or took any form of disciplinary action against Bruce Feldman. There was never any suspension or any other form of disciplinary action. We took the time to review his upcoming work assignments in light of the book to which he contributed and will manage any conflicts or other issues as needed. Bruce has resumed his assignments."

Like the Big East needs more crappy teams. There is already 8 of them.
A&M A.D. Bill Byrne's "Wednesday Weekly" column on June 16, 2010, suspiciously absent from A&M's site now, but living on forever in the intergoogles, addressing Longhorn Network a couple years after helping vote down UT's proposal for B12 network 11 to 1, and then voting down equal partnership in a Lonestar Network:
Statement One: Texas is going to have a cable channel like the Big Ten Network that will give them even more money and recruiting advantages. After all, it was reported in orangebloods.com and many media outlets picked it up, so it must be true.
Here are the facts.
The bottom line is NOTHING HAS CHANGED!
They could have had their own network for the last 14 years of the Big 12 and so could we or any member of the conference. Our friends have been bringing their Longhorn Sports Network television mic flags around for years. Their stand alone network has still not happened yet.
ABC/ESPN and FOX continue to have rights to the league’s vast inventory of home football, men’s basketball, and women’s basketball games. For specific’s regarding the Big 12 TV Contracts, click here.
There are quite a few baseball and softball games, tennis matches, swim meets, women’s basketball and even a few men’s basketball and football games that are not selected by ESPN and Fox Sports. And it’s those contests, and only those contests, which may be broadcast on a school’s own network. We call it a third-tier network.
We broadcast many of these contests for free on our Aggies All-Access website powered by CBS Sports. I’m proud to say we have more viewers of our contests than the next three CBS Sports powered websites combined. In effect, that is our Aggie Network and we offer it to you for free around the world.
When we built the 12th Man Productions facilities, our plan was all along to eventually put together an Aggie Network. We are better positioned than any other conference school to do it. Having said that, we would still need to invest millions of dollars to hire the staff, and purchase the equipment and air time to do our own network.
And while we would have some live programming from what ABC/ESPN and Fox Sports did not select, the bulk of programming would be replays of recent games and rebroadcasts of historical games. Even ESPN does not have enough live programming to fill its’ schedule each day. That’s why the Aggie Network is still on the internet.
Today, the financial numbers simply do not work in our favor to produce 168 hours of TV every week. If you think about it, a separate school network does not work unless it’s public television, and they need all kinds of institutional and federal government funding. Last time I checked, the college athletic departments are not eligible.
contrast that to now:
1.This entire Texas A&M-to-SEC situation might well have been avoided if Texas and A&M had been able to reach an agreement on a proposal three or four years ago that would have created a joint television network that would have broadcast the two flagship schools' Olympic sports like volleyball, women's basketball, track and field, and swimming and diving but only within the state's boundaries. Was to be called the Flagship Network. "It never went very far," A&M athletic director Bill Byrne said Sunday after returning from France where the Aggie men's basketball team was touring with exhibition games. "We had a real interest in it, but they had other interests."
any and all complaints of inequity are nothing more than sour grapes. you skip on an investment b/c you undervalue it's worth, sucks to be you.
the only thing A&M's administration is worse at than strategy & political savvy is their business sense, they borrowed $16M from the university's general fund a couple years ago and full payment is due this year. this is a program that should NEVER be in the red, let alone in the red for 20% of it's annual budget. and a program that passed on a Lonestar Network that would be commanding some outrageous fees from cable providers if they had partnered up.

http://sports.yahoo.com/investigations/news;_ylt=AkD7Vo3wsIbfPsZ5vDZ9tdw5nYcB?slug=cr-renegade_miami_booster_details_illicit_benefits_08 1611
EARNEY, N.J. – A University of Miami booster, incarcerated for his role in a $930 million Ponzi scheme, has told Yahoo! Sports he provided thousands of impermissible benefits to at least 72 athletes from 2002 through 2010.
In 100 hours of jailhouse interviews during Yahoo! Sports’ 11-month investigation, Hurricanes booster Nevin Shapiro described a sustained, eight-year run of rampant NCAA rule-breaking, some of it with the knowledge or direct participation of at least seven coaches from the Miami football and basketball programs. At a cost that Shapiro estimates in the millions of dollars, he said his benefits to athletes included but were not limited to cash, prostitutes, entertainment in his multimillion-dollar homes and yacht, paid trips to high-end restaurants and nightclubs, jewelry, bounties for on-field play (including bounties for injuring opposing players), travel and, on one occasion, an abortion.
Also among the revelations were damning details of Shapiro’s co-ownership of a sports agency – Axcess Sports & Entertainment – for nearly his entire tenure as a Hurricanes booster. The same agency that signed two first-round picks from Miami, Vince Wilfork and Jon Beason, and recruited dozens of others while Shapiro was allegedly providing cash and benefits to players. In interviews with federal prosecutors, Shapiro said many of those same players were also being funneled cash and benefits by his partner at Axcess, then-NFL agent and current UFL commissioner Michael Huyghue. Shapiro said he also made payments on behalf of Axcess, including a $50,000 lump sum to Wilfork, as a recruiting tool for the agency.

2. Georgia's Nikefication is shocking. I won't tell you what those all-red uniforms remind me of, but it is unpleasant.
3. Michigan is playing old-school Michigan football... which means they'll be better but will fail spectacularly against SEC / Big 12 / Pac 12 bowl opposition.
4. The Longhorn Network might be dead before it really gets going, with A&M being the killer. If A&M leave the B12, Oklahoma and Texas almost have to leave -- to a conference that already has a profit-sharing network (Big 10 or Pac 12). The only way they stay is to lure some big or semi-big names into the Big 12 immediately -- Iowa (won't happen), LSU (doubtful), etc... just seems impossible. My guess is Pac 16 with UT, Oklahoma, OK State, and Tech, with the rub there being how god-awful Tech is academically and what a burden they are on the academic side of a conference.
5. Oregon-LSU is a fun game to watch so far.
Of course f00 will come correct me on #4, and I look forward to hearing it...

Just out of curiosity, when's the last time Notre Dame finished higher than their early season/pre season ranking?

LHN was created with IMG under the impression that UT would be footing the considerable bill for it, it's purpose was expanding the brand and developing exposure for the non-revenue sports. Then ESPN comes along and drops 300M on UT & IMG... there's going to be a considerable academic component to it as well, the financial end, possible revenue sharing, etc. is the least of the administration's concerns compared to their interest in ath & ac exposure.
Most important part is leverage, Pac can't expand w/o OU/UT, they're the only financially feasible options on the table (and the two schools are working lock-step with their posturing & negotiations). SEC has shown they can't find financially feasible options outside of A&M (the east schools are blackballing Clemson, FSU, & GT right now. VT doesn't offer the value add to prevent dilution of TV revenue distribution, Maryland's not leaving the ACC, NCSU is a UNC system school, and UNC regents are not going to allow that, UNC's not leaving UVA, Duke, Maryland, NCSU, GT etc.). B10 is the only one w/ financially feasible expansion options that meet the athletic & academic criteria, Pac & SEC aren't as in strong of a position to dictate terms of expansion.
To that, add that new reports last week show ESPN is pimping LHN at much higher than the reported $0.40 carriage fee for texas basic cable & expanded digital in NM, AR, OK, LA. If any one of Comcast, TW, the satellites, UVerse, Charter signs at that high fee, that fee then dictates the carriage rate for national sports tier pricing, if that comes through this next month or 2 before the Kansas game is on LHN, the revenue projections go through the roof and UT keeps 70% of every extra dollar, at that point there's a **** ton of leverage for UT & OU (working as a pair) to extract concessions from the Pac on the regional network format, the give would not just be the revenue sharing but the forfeiture of 3rd tier rights, the take would be school networks or something of that sort in addition to the financial guarantees that were given to USC & UCLA, if PTN didn't meet certain revenue goals USC & UCLA were due unequal TV revenue distribution from the Conference, no doubt something of that exact nature would be negotiated with UT/OU wrt school networks & 3rd tier rights. Pac'll need UT/OU more than UT/OU'll need Pac while the SEC and B10 go to 14 and UT/OU cobbles together some sad excuse of a little sisters of the poor conference for themselves that satisfies Fox to maintain the new contract rate. After the above, add in ESPN as a stakeholder in all conferences & holder of the purse strings, LHN might end up neutered in some way, but don't see it as going away completely.
IMO, there is zero chance TWC signs up for LHN from the start. Keep in mind that the NFLN still isn't on TWC (even as an option), and BTN wasn't there for well over a season (BTN was asking ~$/subscriber, IIRC). All of this just wants me to cut the cord. Period. :saywhat:

supposedly there's some strain in the relationships between both OU & UT now, and in the B12South w/ Larry Scott. OU/UT involving UT holding a firmer line on LHN (want to maintain branding aspect of single school network), and w/ Scott b/c of the Pac8's insistance on certain stipulations like an 8 team divisional format which would keep the 8 east division schools out of california (mountain & az schools won't vote for expansion w/o a pods format), rose bowl tie-in for the pac8, etc., meanwhile they're happy to accept the bigger paycheck from market expansion without giving up anything on their end.
ath dept leaked to ut rivals.com writer & local stooge Chip Brown about ACC which a) reeks of controlled leak through a reliable media monkey too dumb to figure out he's being used and b) has to be to pressure both BYU and Larry Scott. ACC commish issued a denial of "UT, Rutgers, UConn, Syracuse," but nothing beyond that specific scenario, so it smells about as disingenuous as BYU's "denial" of B12 discussions
some serious tradition rolled into town yesterday evening

nothing like beating a 6-5 Michigan team w/ an injured Harbaugh due to a pair of 4th quarter td's to win by 7 to seal your status as Greatest of All Time. To be found on board were also steve young's 18 wives.
Mike Stoops has an entire offseason to gameplan for OkSt and gets pantsed again, over before the time Q1 was finished.

the meth head panhandling out by the east side projects is more connected to the ath dept than bohls is.
I think B12 is done, OU had their BoR set to meet Monday, it was pushed back a week to accommodate us after a meeting last week. Then today this is posted, UT system BoR meeting 2 hr's after OU's
The U. T. System Board of Regents will convene a Special Called meeting via telephone conference call from 3:00 p.m. to approximately 3:30 p.m. on September 19, 2011, according to the following agenda. It is necessary to conduct this special meeting by telephone because it was not possible to convene a quorum in one place in a timely manner
a) they rushed to schedule the meeting b) only 30 minutes allotted so not for discussions, for decisions
A. CALL TO ORDER IN OPEN SESSION
B. RECESS TO EXECUTIVE SESSION, IF NEEDED, PURSUANT TO TEXAS GOVERNMENT CODE, CHAPTER 551

If you add up these results across all 210 markets, the three most popular teams are the three that also usually have the largest home attendance: Ohio State, Michigan, and Penn State. (Ohio State is ranked first in the country with about 3.1 million fans.)

If the buckeye bandwagon survived 12 + years of John Cooper they can survive with 3 games of Luke Fickell (who I now refer to as the interim coach). However, if I was a couch in Columbus, I would feel very nervous around flames. :D
OU & UT BoRs authorize respective presidents to "take any and all action" regarding realignment. b12 has to be done, now.

Coke is on the OK list. Pepsi, not so much.
OU making noise about "reforms" for the B12 if they are to stay, a day after their president rips the conf, the commish, and UT admins.
Translation: "We didn't get enough votes in the Pac12 for acceptance yet."
They want Beebe replaced, despite Beebe being their selection 4 years ago to replace Weiberg and UT wanting another guy.
and since the 3rd party market analysis for their TV network came back last week without hitting the numbers they were projecting internally, now they're suddenly in favor of equal revenue on 3rd tier.
And if Mizzou and A&M are the 2 big "gets" for Mike "Just gimme 15 minutes" Slive...
