His family is taking us to court. Hope we say no thanks. Geez, it's not like we waterboarded him or anything.

Thought it was his son, Omar, who ironically was always pretty critical of his Pop's politics and methods.

In any case, a non-issue that will never see a courtroom. Let's hope Judicial Watch's bin Laden lawsuit meets the same fate.

Nothing to worry about:

Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan took millions of dollars from the Saudis as dean of Harvard Law School and a chunk of it reportedly came from 9/11 mastermind Osama bin Laden.

The bin Laden family has donated millions of dollars to the Ivy League university over the years, including generous endowments for the school’s Islamic law program and others to finance scholarships for students from Muslim countries. The family has a fondness for Harvard because Osama bin Laden’s brother, Abdullah, received a master’s degree from the school in the 1990s and a doctorate in 2000.

I tread lightly here - trying to avoid the political third rail, but...

The second paragraph may be accurate (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/education/1564428.stm), but the first paragraph seems a little skewed. I think Kagan was the Dean of the law school when the University proper accepted donations from folks who happen to be related to Osama bin Laden.

I don't think she was taking the big poster sized check from a guy carrying an AK-47.

Yep. Many American people of various political persuasions took money from and did business with the bin Laden family.

Doesn't the bin Laden family own one of the largest construction companies in Saudi?

Osama had somewhere around 50 siblings.

With that many somebody is bound to a really, really black sheep. :gomer:

I find it interesting that Harvard Law School has an Islamic law program.

Shocking that Harvard Law's international law programs would cover the legal systems of countries outside of the United States:shakehead

For example the law school I went to has one of the strongest international law programs in the US (see first link for description of the program, second for regional international law conference to be held there this fall). If you watch much in the way of news you almost certainly saw its director on TV since he was deeply involved with various international issues involving Iraq, like helping their prosecutors with the war crimes prosecution of Sadam Hussain. Their course offerings (third link) include 2 Islamic law course (and 2 Jewish ones as well). By the way, I do a lot of finance work and although I have never needed to learn the ins-and-outs of it if I happen to start suddenly doing work for the banks I do work for cross border into the middle east I know that they have strict limits on something, primarily the collection of interest that would affect how I did things (by the way there is a certain subset of work in the US where you have to know traditional Jewish law when you structure things because certain sect of Jews adhere to very similar rules regarding interest which I would venture a guess is where Islam got the whole concept). But this is no different than having to learn about, say, Kentucky mortgage law if I am doing a cross border loan secured by property in Lexington.

Actually ,the Bin Laden's have a home in Florida for sale-

http://www.zillow.com/blog/2011-05-06/former-bin-laden-family-home-for-sale-in-florida/

Many Bin Laden family members have lived in the United States at one time. The family is closely connected to the Saudi royal family and operate the Binladin Group, a family construction business, one of the largest in the Middle East. Most family members severed ties with Osama bin Laden in the early 1990s. Around the time of 9/11, many members of the extended family were attending colleges in the U.S. or conducting business abroad. Osama bin Laden on the other hand, reportedly never left the Middle East, so any rumors of him visiting his brother’s Florida home are most likely false.

The Bin Ladens fled the US shortly after 9/11.

There's one in Pakistan for sale too...if you don't mind a few bullet holes in the walls, bloodstains on the floor, and oh yes, the helicopter-sized crater in the back yard...:D
