Now 18 months later, it will be made official next week in Phoenix, home of her primary sponsor GoDaddy.com, that Patrick will race a full NASCAR Nationwide schedule in 2012 for JRM, with a few selected Sprint Cup races with Stewart Haas Racing.

The latter deal is said to be a preliminary step to her teaming up with her pal Tony Stewart full-time in Cup in 2013.

Hilarious picture of JV and DP. Is Jacques explaining to DP about his intended move on her in the Saturday race, or do his hand motions signal her exit from IndCar next season?

"Nope, haven't sold one record. You?"

Also, when did JV become David Letterman?

Well, technically that is not a misuse of the word according to Webster:

1. a : one of two or more striving to reach or obtain something that only one can possess

b : one striving for competitive advantage

Yeppers. Autoweak also.

That whooshing sound you hear is not Hurricane Irene. It's every driver in the IRK exhaling.

There's already a small problem. When Sparklepony moves to Cup in 2013, she wants the number 7. Robby Gordon owns the number. How many zeroes are going to have to be on a check to get him to give up that number?

I knew there was a reason I liked Robby Gordon ....

There is at least one NASCAR Sprint Cup driver not welcoming IndyCar star Danica Patrick with open arms to the stock car series. It was speculated that Robby Gordon would give up his No. 7 to the 29-year-old Patrick. Not so. “They don’t have enough money (to buy it from me),” Gordon said at Bristol Motor Speedway

Looks like the leeg signed their TV deal just in time. Maybe ABC(?) was smart enough to include a danica-less out clause.

Patrick's NASCAR plans prompt more criticism (http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5jJMRoFBvbDaKKIbfsypC6qqWwxPg?docId=ae39b2dbb f984d8d9019b4a7d8ad1313)

It's doubtful anyone has ever paid attention to what five-time NASCAR champion Jimmie Johnson has worn to a press conference, but one publication noted that Patrick wore "orange hooker heels" to last Thursday's announcement. She's been referred to by her married name, Mrs. Paul Hospenthal, called "Mrs. Arrogant," and had her underwhelming IndyCar statistics repeated again and again as fans debate whether she deserves a NASCAR ride.

It's been mean-spirited, unfair, and worst of all, off the mark.

In auto racing, talent and performance are not the most important job requirements, unlike any other professional sport. It's money, especially in heavily marketed NASCAR.

Looking at the lengthy career of some Cup drivers versus their number of wins, it is hard to argue some of the logic in this article.
