Great summary ank. Very accurate. Against the Saints I just got the impression they didn't have enough bullets or only had a knife in a gun fight or sumpin like that.

As for Da'ril things have been very quiet about him all season. No real talk. I expected to see a lot of him with Bradshaw out but Ward has been getting the nod and I haven't been impressed. Not bad but always seems to leave a yard or three on the table and is not a breakaway threat.

Suh's not gonna let a little suspension keep him from hitting things (http://www.oregonlive.com/portland/index.ssf/2011/12/nfl_player_ndamukong_suh_crash.html).

Suh, 24, reportedly lost control of a 1970 Chevrolet Coupe while he was driving south on Third Avenue. When he crossed Burnside Street, the back end of his car spun out and he crashed into a curb, light pole, a drinking fountain and a tree

Just my opinion here, and I am sure if there are rugby and football historians in here we can probably put it together, but it probably has to do with the kickoff being a deadball situation (My hunch is that the free kick after safety likely has a penalty associated with it if it goes out of bounds).

From what little I've seen of them this year, they seem decent. Considering that this year has a bumper crop of bad teams and some of the worst football I can remember, 3-3 in the AFC Rust Belt ain't too shabby.

And feel free to bring that statement up again in December, when they're 3-13, McCoy's retired to a Tibetan monastery and they're looking seriously at signing Donovan McNabb. :D

Yeah, after watching whatever that was last night, the second paragraph is much closer than the first. Colt McCoy is the poor man's Mark Sanchez.

The clear solution to everyone's problems is for Denver to trade Jesus to Cleveland. :D

How many games will Harrison get suspended for driving his helmet through Colt's jaw?

Ankf00
12-09-11, 01:25 PM
I don't think Colt's proven he's gonna be a top 10 starter, but he's not the problem on that team. The o-line is an absolute trainwreck, not even Teebus could save that line, Hillis was out most of the year, and the wr corps is NFL #1 in drops (#2? iggles, same line issues, which is what I blame for Vick's performance, and my Atlanta-era Vick can't throw posts are on this board too.). And that's just the offense...

I do think he's proven on the field that he gets the standard amount of time good prospects do to have a team built around them to see if they can grow accordingly. Personality & leadership, Mangini hated him even though Holmgren wanted him badly if he fell to the 3rd, and so Holmgren took him. So in return Mangina didn't even give him a playbook, a locker, wouldn't tell him about qb meetings, would keep him out of the qb huddle in practice, etc., and Colt made his way into all of that on his own, w/o making any noise, and then there's Mangini's OC riding him to the point of the other offensive players publicly stating how over the line things were last year, and Colt just going about his stuff anyway.

VY's screwed himself all on his own, but Ten had the same exact b.s. with a HC & OC doing their best to screw with the GM's franchise qb pick, only in Cleveland the GM got to stick around to build the team instead of the overrated coach who made the playoffs an epic 5 times in what, 17 seasons? And Colt played his way into that role with the qb attrition over the season.

I've always been a fan of brains + accuracy over NFL wet dream big arm, Joe Montana over Jeff George, Colt's a perfect fit for a WCO, will see how he grows in year 3 & 4. He's got the skills and the head, leads by example and his teammates are behind him, but want to see if he can manage a full season playoff run, teams adjusting week after week, morphing the offense throughout 5 months' play, taking the hits and staying in one piece and still getting it done, but first he's gotta lead the team from this to wildcard form

I'd say $50K and three games.

I'd say $50K and three games.Let's look at this from the league's standpoint. He was fined 75k in a game against the Browns last year when he hit Massaquoi and Cribbs with helmet hits. He was fined 50k more last year for other hits. Then the famous interview where he mocked the commissioner. Doesn't matter that McCoy was out of the pocket or even that he is a quarterback. Harrison lowered his head and launched into Colt's head. Then he was not apologetic or contrite at all after the game. (He should have pretended to be, for his own good). Given that history, I am guessing the penalty will be severe. Your three games is a good guess. 50k might be a little light. Or the commissioner could totally go off on him and try to get him out of the league.

I guess you guys need a winky to know sarcasm.

By today's standards there is little doubt he will get fined and suspended. And I fully get the importance of dealing with concussions -- first hand.

But...

That's not how I was taught.

If he hadn't lowered his head he would have hit him full in the face.

If he Colt wasn't a quarterback it would have likely been seen as just another hit -- but maybe not these days.

I would have liked to see a little less of the top of his head hit/more of "see what you hit" but this is not at all Deacon Jones-like.

Being a Browns fan in NE Ohio, much of what you say is accurate, maybe understated. The WR corps is simply the least-talented in the NFL I've seen, period. Drops, of course, but ZERO playmaking ability.

Tony Pashos at RT is a walking, aging abortion. Jason Pinkston sucks, and the Lauvao experiment= epic FAIL. So, 3/5 of the line needs fixing.

The coaching/front-office stuff is so true (h=ll, our "GM" from 2 yrs. ago was escorted out of the building. We still don't know why.). Sadly, Shurmur's in wayyyyyyy over his head, I'm afraid.

Ditto. That's why I was thrilled when Dalton was there for the Bengals in the second. So far he's been more than I could have hoped for from a rookie QB. Of course the Bengals also gave him at least two legitimate receiving threats in Green and Gresham, but Simpson and Caldwell have been erratic at best.

Part 2:

For example, prior to the Steeler game, 55 of the previous 70 pass attempts were for less than ten yards. Now, some of this is due to the inability of the WR corps to get separation, some of it may be the nature of the WCO but some of it is incoherent, stupid playcalling. The Browns are becoming famous for the 3-yd. route on 3rd and 8.:shakehead

And how did they let Colt back in after that hit? It was obvious he had a concussion.

That said, Ank references Colt's "accuracy." Really? B/c so far, he's been anything but. Yes, some of this can be attributed to a shoddy o-line. When you're under pressure a ton, that has a way of messing with you. Fair enough.

But regardless of why, he's been pretty inaccurate, particulatly w/ anything over 15 yds. Frankly, I had an epiphany about 4 wks. ago. I saw highlights from the Bengals-Ravens game and saw Dalton make some bullet throws into tight spots that I believe Colt could never make, period. Does he need a rocket arm? No, but I think his arm is just not good enough for the cold wind of C-town.

Oh, and his decision-making? Very iffy, at best.

It's definitely not all his fault, but if not next yr., I think the Browns will move on by '13.

Ankf00
12-10-11, 07:48 PM
the browns texans game was the absolute best, for real. w/ a sieve line and no running game, the CLE OC would, without fail, on 3rd & not short have em line up in a tight formation showing max protect and run play action to boot. because bunching up the defense in the box is the best strategic move to let the qb more easily read the D and have extra time in the pocket on 3rd & long, you see, this is the NFL, no nancyboy gimmick formations here, we do it tough like Lombradi and Landry did...

we'll see if Colt shows he has starter skills, but I'll stand by the potential for accuracy, he set the NCAA record for completion percentage that year we played 4 top 10 teams in a row, and his freshman year's the only time he had a quality line to play behind, and its not like we run a system offense to pad the numbers w/ gimme passes either.

Oh well. It's probably just as well that this team doesn't make the play-offs this season since they're clearly not ready to beat play-off caliber teams. Another one and done play-off appears will probably do more harm than good at this stage. It would be nice to close with a winning record, but even that's a toss-up right now.

Still a better season than anyone expected and all the potential you could ask for.

Ok, so I'd rather see him hold the ball more securely and just get it safely in the end zone, but that was spectacular. See kids, this is why you need to say "No" to drugs, so you can grow up and be a professional athlete and make spectacular plays like Jerome Simpson. Wait. Nevermind.

Honestly, Simpson needs to start making plays about a quarter that spectacular on a more consistent basis instead of showing up on highlight reals once every four or five games.

Oh, Tebow. I guess Santa brought you your first ever three INT game.

ETA: According to the video accompanying this story (http://www.wgrz.com/sports/pro_football/NFL/Bills/article/147444/438/Bills-Snap-Streak-Crush-Broncos-40-14), Yukon Cornelius is apparently now playing QB for the Bills.

Depends on who shows up. Giants of this week or last week? Tony Romo, yes or no? Statistics and heart of this house (TravelGuy) says Giants. We'll see. :\

Let's start our pick'em a week early....who wins the NFC East, Giants or Cowboys?Giants' record all time against back up QBs is awful.

So I'm hoping Romo plays... badly.

But just gotta think the Giants win either way. Dallas just seems more flawed and less inspired -- and I'm a little surprised to think that.

I think if the Cowboys have Murray, they could win... but they're one-dimensional right now, and I trust Eli in a big moment more than Romo in a big moment. Giants by 10.

Doesn't matter. The wild card team will beat them the following weekend.

Can't believe that as a Bears fan, I've been to Lambeau 6-8 times and you've never been.

You're a disgrace to your fat, drunken brethren. :D

Stephen McGee is not a backup qb, Stephen McGee is an option qb who was only a big-time qb recruit b/c he got to throw to the Bengals' De'Jordan Shipley for 4 years in HS. Stephen McGee will get eaten alive by a 3 pro bowler d-line and that MASH unit of a secondary.

screw dallas

Yes.

Screw Dallas.

In a most indelicate way

Several times.

But don't forget Vince Friggin Young took apart the Giants just a few weeks ago -- passing not running.

And over the years these guys looked awfully good against the Giants.

I think that's the only time Carson Palmer has done what he needed to to get the Bengals into the playoffs in the final game.

Har. CP3 will be sitting home next week while Andy Dalton gets another shot to hone his skills as a rookie.

That game was sick.

As much as I can't stand Schwartz - they got jobbed multiple times.

GB had better hope that Woodson and Matthews coming back makes a huge difference. I could see NO putting 40 on them.
