Just watching this race on youtube (in its entirety) but curious as to why they're running the wingset they are. They appear to be running speedway front wings and road course rear wings. Why? Surely it would have made sense to run the speedway kit all around and just not attach the Hanford device. Anybody know why they did that?

Are you sure you were watching the 2001 race? Looks like full speedway wing package to me...

However, in 2003, they made a compromise because they also were going to Brands Hatch too and wanted to keep costs down by only taking essentials (one aero package), IIRC.

Going off what Parker Johnstone said in the introduction it sounded like they were using the road course element?

Stating the obvious: Those cars are beautiful. And they sounded beautiful too. :(

Yeah, I think I see what you are talking about. I saw a 2001 Michigan image with speedway wing w/ Hanford attached...much different. The wing was flat, not the curved element in the Brack/Shell image above.

Those cars are gorgeous.

IIRC 2001 MIS race used a Hansford device rear wing.

Not in Germany? Just a guess.

Correct answer.
