Sad.
He was a hugely influential and innovative. A lot of people owe an awful lot to him.
Probably not fair, but I always thought of him as the anti-Dick Clark ;)
I remember watching Soul Train on Saturday afternoons and thinking there was a whole different world than the one I where I was living. :(

I am going to have the Soul Train song in my head the rest of the day.
RIP Don.

I remember watching Soul Train on Saturday afternoons and thinking there was a whole different world than the one I where I was living. :(That may be among Don's greatest cultural contributions. His show was the first show for blacks by blacks. It was a hell of a thing just to get it on the air.
And it introduced black music and culture to white America at a time when those two worlds lived quite separately -- even when side-by-side.
Whites knew something of R&B and soul in the 50s and early 60s, but it was white guys like Elvis and later Brits who made it popular with white kids.
Amazing how much America has changed and sad how far it has still to go.

r.i.p. Don
During Don's bitter divorce proceedings in 2009, he told an L.A. judge he was suffering from "significant health issues" and wanted to "finalize this divorce before I die."

I was on an R and B trip in the late 80s and Soul Train was a big part of it. This one definitely is sad. Loved the show.

So much awesome. I don't know why people complained so much in the 1970's. Who cares about stagflation, high interest rates and "malaise" when you've got Soul Train?
Good to see KC when he wasn't fat, balding and sweating greasy sweat. :gomer:
He still funks tho.

'Soul Train' fans dance at NYC Cornelius fete
About 100 dancers descended on Times Square in a "flash mob" organized through the Internet. As startled tourists looked on, they recreated one of the show's "Soul Train lines" in which people would take turns dancing toward a TV camera while showing off their most outrageous moves.:D
