2 time and reigning MotoGP champ will retire at the end of the 2012 season.

I'm surprised although to be honest at just 26 he has nothing left to achieve. He's won it twice on two different bikes, under both the 800 and 1000cc rules and also the open and control tyre rules. He's won the GP at every circuit on the calendar and he's just started a family.

Actually, Stoner won his first Championship for Ducati in 2007 on the GP7 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ducati_Desmosedici) which was the first year for the 800cc formula (previously 990cc). Nicky Hayden won the last 990 championship in 2006.
Casey won his second on a Fhonda in 2011, the last year for the 800cc bikes. This year he currently leads the championship in the first year of the new 1000cc formula.

He's not the most likable chap in the paddock, but it was a treat to see him ride a motorcycle. Major respect for his skill. Here's to hoping he finishes his final season injury free and he can enjoy the time spent with his family.

I've always admired his openness and honesty. There's very little obfuscating as far as Stoner is concerned...
