It isn't a real tournament for ank until England is eliminated...
Stupid way to win a game. Stupid game.

It is a stupid way to end a game. They should keep playing till one team scores a real goal or the crowd becomes so drunk and violent the local police have to declare martial law. In that case the game is decided by a coin toss.

Yes. First, extra time should be golden goal, and second, if nobody has scored after 120 minutes, find a creative way to keep the game rolling but make scoring easier. Pull the keepers, or eliminate offsides, or go 10v10, or something to alter team strategy that led to the draw in the first place.
When I come to power, mens soccer will be delcared illegal, and its fans will be redistributed to more interesting sports like badminton, the WNBA, ultimate frisbee, and bocce ball. To prove that I am a just and kind ruler, Indycar shall receive no fans.

Wouldn't them getting tired make it easier? I say keep playing, the better conditioned team will have the advantage over time.

No subs after a point. Run them into the ground until someone scores.

They are already limited to 3 substitutions per game.

that's just an awesome idea for a team in the middle of a tournament.

Middle of tournament or not, they oughta be able to win the dang game. If they can't they suffer the consequences.

Ya mean like the Final Four or the NBA playoffs? Tournaments where the best conditioned, most skilled athletes in the World go into overtime and then play two days later?

Or playoff hockey...any round...where the pucks don't stop until someone scores in OT, OT 2, OT 3, OT 4.... Having lived and died through several of those 3 and 4 OT games that end @ 1 or 2 in the AM, watching players crawl off the ice @ the end of shifts, during which any footieball player would have fallen to the ground writhing in 'pain'. :shakehead Sorry, but I have respect for the game/sport, but disdain for some of the tactics. :saywhat:

Just saying, that scoring should get easier if they keep playing. I don't care all that much as long as whatever they do is fundamentally fair. They can flip a coin for all I care. But the purest thing to do is keep playing.
Just like any system, if you don't want it to come to OT, win in regulation. :D

the game has unlimited substitutions and 240% more roster spots as playing positions. totally equivalent.

Oh give me a ****ing break. Have you ever run the floor? Jogging around in the grass is complete horse**** compared to buckets as far as conditioning and skill goes.

48 minutes running a 100 foot floor, regular prefontaines, those guys :gomer: wait, no, NBA announcers go gaga knob slobbering over players who actually play 48 minutes a game
Tennis, anyone?

Average midfielder runs 7.25 miles per game. Average basketball player is 3.5-4 miles per game (with way more stoppages, substitutions, etc., but also far more jumping)
chop456

Yeah, but a basketball game is a little over half as long as a soccer match. ;)
Aussie Rules players average 15-20 miles over 120 minutes. And they jump. :)
So, back on topic, who is going win this?

Portugal doesn't have good enough #10
Italy is here by default
Germany is intriguing and tough
But Spain should win.
I'd like to see Portugal or Germany win though.
I've thought Germany has played as a more complete team than Spain so far. David Villa's opened a sizable hole in their finishing abilities, Germany you take out one of the forwards and apparently the depth is there to fill it in w/o a noticeable dropoff, and I don't think their back line is playing as in sync as in the past, which will be problematic if ozil/podolski/muller/gomes/etc keep playing like it's playstation.
hope the azzurri continue their streak of handling superior german sides in knockout rounds though :D
If the mannschaft doesn't stomp this spanish side by 2 (assuming spain pulls it out), they have only themselves to blame
lulz. no shot attempt for sugar tits. can't wait for tomorrow.
spain, germany, italy, a veritable who's who of 1930's fascism!

That was three hours out of my life that I'll never get back.:shakehead
played out like a typical real barca match, Bento copied Mourinho's strategy, 3 defenders collapsing on the man with possession, suffocate & disrupt, some great first touch moves in the middle of the field and absolute **** on the ends. replete with all the acting.
hopefully italy & germany keep playing as they have been. Spain Italy was great the first time around, and Germany's current play would make for an even better matchup.
