WATERBURY, Conn. (AP) — A reopened police investigation has concluded that actor Dylan McDermott's mother was killed in 1967 by her now-dead gangster boyfriend.
...
He was 5 years old when his mother was shot in February 1967. Her death was originally ruled an accident.
...
The state's medical examiner, H. Wayne Carver, reviewed McDermott's autopsy and determined that the gun found near the body was too small a caliber to have been the weapon used to kill her. The wound also showed that the murder weapon had been pressed to the back of her head, according to his report.

^ Who accidentally shoots themselves in the back of the head?

Totally out of control. I am teaching my kids to never, ever trust a cop. And thinking about that after losing Sheriff Taylor makes me sad.

I am teaching my kids to never, ever trust a cop.
Hope that is hyperbole.
That said, folks do need to understand their rights. I tell my wife, if stopped and they give you the "do you mind if I search your car?...", the answer is "YES, I do mind..."
I don't like those videos of the d-bags who are open carrying a weapon but just happen to have their video cameras . They are looking for trouble - but point is they are within their rights. PD needs to stop taking the bait.
But tell kids to not trust the PD?
There are very valid reasons to not trust the PD. Around here that goes for everyone from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (who are an embarrassment) to the mostly corrupt cops in the local small town forces. The only group here that seem to uphold a higher standard are the state cops, and they are mostly tasked with writing tickets for $$$.
Seriously, I am a middle aged white guy and have little to fear, but if for some reason these ****ers decide to mess with you, you are toast. They can ruin your life 50 different ways and then only face their own "internal affairs" coverup departments. And since they handle all the evidence, WHOOPS!
And regarding the children, considering the sort of lowlifes that end up in uniform, I might be more comfortable turning my kids over to a priest.

Police force cavity search after traffic stop (Video)
The incident began January 2, 2013 after David Eckert finished shopping at the Wal-Mart in Deming. According to a federal lawsuit, Eckert didn't make a complete stop at a stop sign coming out of the parking lot and was immediately stopped by law enforcement, according to
KOB4.
Eckert's attorney, Shannon Kennedy, said in an interview with KOB that after law enforcement asked him to step out of the vehicle, he appeared to be clenching his buttocks. Law enforcement thought that was probable cause to suspect that Eckert was hiding narcotics in his anal cavity. While officers detained Eckert, they secured a search warrant from a judge that allowed for an anal cavity search.

The hospital billed the man $6000 for their trouble
Did they find any polyps? If so, did they send them out for biopsy?
I'm clenching my buttocks now just from reading that.

If that tale is even 0.1% true then the defendants are going to be eviscerated in federal court.:shakehead:

I would hope so, but I bet Nope.
Firefighter arrested by California Highway Patrol at scene of accident.
As San Diego's CBS 8 TV reports, an argument broke out between a California Highway Patrol officer and a firefighter from Chula Vista, as they clashed over where the Chula Vista crew's fire engine should be stationed. Firefighters had placed their vehicle along the center road divider, close to where a car had flipped over, and behind an ambulance. Emergency personnel tended to the car's two occupants as the conflict went on around them.
CBS 8's cameras captured the incident, which ended with the firefighter being handcuffed and placed in the back of a police cruiser.

Seriously? :gomer:
Seriously? :gomer:
This happens quite a bit. The PD wants to keep as much traffic moving as possible and limit lane closures. The FD is taught to use the truck as a shield and to protect the crews operating on the highway. PD orders FD to move the fire truck. Firefighters refuse. On go the cuffs.
The question is who is in charge of the scene and what is the priority.:saywhat:
It is embarrassing honestly. :shakehead:

Mr. Eckert settled with the city and county in January for $1.6 million. He still has pending lawsuits against the deputy DA who asked for the search warrant, the doctors, and the medical facility.

Seems unrelated, but four of the medical facility's administrators resigned last summer. Hopefully, the new leaders take better care of their patients. http://www.scsun-news.com/silver_city-news/ci_25701019

A Pottawattamie County man says he's still recovering from a brutal beating he took at the hands of the SWAT Team. But even investigators agree false claims started the whole incident. Now, the man is suing the sheriff's department for using excessive force.
52-year-old John Hytrek, who lives with Parkinson's Disease, was working on a tractor outside his shop in his driveway in August 2012 at his home in Pottawattamie County. Very suddenly, nearly a dozen swat members from the Pottawattamie County Sheriff's Office jumped out of a van in his driveway.

Don't SWAT me, bro.
What a bunch of pirates. :irked:
I'm pretty sure we shot the British over behavior like this.

FWIW I have a friend who is a retired NJ Trooper. From early in his career he never socialized with them because he was creeped out by them. Going back to the Lindberg baby the NJSP have been pretty corrupt and messed up. But they have anybody in state government pretty intimidated. Nobody wants to come near them. I played football with a few cops and troopers. I was a little put off when I went to one of their condos and they broke out the pot and hookers. District Attorneys aren't much better. Most infamous was Bissel in the 90s and his use of forfeiture laws. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nicholas_L._Bissell,_Jr.
One of those forfeitures proved to be his downfall. On May 10, 1990 James Giuffre was arrested on charges of selling $700 worth of cocaine. Bissell said he would drop the charges if Giuffre forfeited two plots of land to the prosecutor's office. Giuffre agreed, and he turned over the two lots, valued at $174,000. They were sold at auction below their value to a friend of Bissell's chief of detectives. Giuffre then contacted the Internal Revenue Service and the FBI. Investigators discovered that Bissell and his wife, Barbara, skimmed off the proceeds from a gas station they partly owned to finance a lavish lifestyle. They also discovered evidence that Bissell had flagrantly abused his power. Among other things, he had destroyed a suspect's written request for a lawyer and threatened to frame a gasoline wholesaler for cocaine possession
And then there is Chis Christy.
And then there are my local cops. Don't speed in Frenchtown. The cops are kinda famous in the area for being badass and fathering children with unwed mothers of questionable repute
