View Full Version : If a race happens in Baltimore
would you know by driving through the city?
Apparently NOT.
We took the kids to DC on Saturday - driving through Baltimore SB and NB. Not once did I see a billboard or sign or any type of promotion.
On the NB run, I did see a flashing traffic sign indicating roads to be closed Aug. 30-Sept. 3 in the Inner Harbor area. It didn't say WHY, just that the roads will be closed. Maybe they are paving or doing sewer work or holding a race.
Sewer work. A new euphemism for an IndyCar street race.

You were expecting to see Gene Simmons and his tongue on billboards promoting the race? :tony: Even advertising for the M-O race was muted here in Cbus, but that may have had to do with the volume of political ads running around here in July/early-August. :shakehead :saywhat:

Another race, another flying start. Practice has been red-flagged and a driver meeting convened, as there are issues with the train tracks. Multiple drivers have gotten all four wheels off the ground.

What?!? They can't just stop, look left, right and left again to cross? :gomer: Welcome to San Josie east coast style. :saywhat: :shakehead

Ugly fin? So what! That little Mazda being passed on the last turn of the last lap then REpassing on the run up the hill to the checker to win by .089 at RA has provided me with THE best highlight of this ALMS season.
And the cars are now flying....

Note to NBCVersusSportswhateveryoucallit - A slide show of Bloom County would get better ratings than the race. Free advice right there.

When will these people learn? Racetracks do not contain tram tracks...

What a joke that temporary chicane is on the bumpy straight on Baltimore streets for IndyCar race. How long til the tires are "taken out"?

Any word on the final attendance?
I only watched the "highlights" on the Speed Report and if anyone is trying to characterize that concrete tunnel as "Long Beach on the East Coast" they're out of their friggin' minds...

Smaller crowds and clouds greet the Grand Prix (http://articles.baltimoresun.com/2012-09-02/sports/bs-md-grand-prix-finale-20120902_1_crowds-grand-prix-indycar-ceo-randy-bernard)
Some fans said they preferred this year's race because it was less crowded, with shorter lines for concessions and no back-ups at pedestrian bridges over the track.
"I kind of enjoy the crowd the way it is," said Frances Cadden, a marine engineer from Towson. "It's a really light crowd compared to last year."
General manager Tim Mayer said attendance would not be an important benchmark
:laugh::laugh::laugh:
Think the lesser will buy more lipstick for this pig next year? :tony:

Not a good track. The reason that the rain tire strategy didn't work out for Powers is that the amateurs couldn't keep off the walls the entire rain period. Generally not a very good race. Even for someone who has let go of their hate. And I agree, if a track has a RR crossing, then that is not a good course.
