Actually the Christian Science Monitor seems to miss why this case is even worse then it looks on first blush, and it looks pretty bad for the Italian judicial system even at first blush. This is a good summary of information found at the links given:

Pretty sure the guy who murdered Leon Klinghoffer was released for "good behavior." Sure, 24 yrs. later but he got Italian justice. His boss, Abu Abbas, the mastermind of that cruise ship hi-jacking was "allowed to escape" by Italy after he was brought there for some "justice"...after he got hi-jacked himself! Now THAT was justice but...they let him go. Died in 2004 (?) but Palestinian authorities said the US "heart attacked" him. I hope so. Did Klinghoffer's assassin ever experience justice of ANY sort after his release? '09?
