As a life long Yankees fan, many years in a pennant race with the O's, Earl was a worthy and admired adversary... Even before he started growing tomatoes down the left field line. How can you not love that?
A Billy Martin/Earl Weaver managed game was likely to produce a lot of entertainment. :D

But according to the above years later it was revealed that it was actually the groundskeepers who grew them. The story at the time was they belonged to Weaver.
