Liz Phair has a new CD out that contains a song titled HWC. As many of you know, HWC is king of the lemming cheerleaders on racing forums. So when I saw the song I thought I should check out the lyrics to see exactly what HWC stood for.

Liz Phair is HOT. She's known for pushing the limits but it's not widely known because she doesn't get arrested for indecency or shooting people. There are some pretty interesting lyrics on "Exile in Guyville", too. "I want to be your bl** j** queen".

Writing things like that, it's no wonder she suffered from stagefright early in her career.

Can't wait to hear the new Liz Phair. I noticed that she was on Leno the other night. Somehow, I doubt she played this song.

Somewhere Joni Mitchell or Carol King are not worried about being eclipsed by Liz as reigning master female lyricists.

"Johnny Feelgood" is a pretty good song by Liz, but I don't care for the rest of her stuff.

Phair has always been over rated IMO. Exile in Guyville was noticed because of it's semi-catchy, extreme sexual innuendo low-fi 'alternative' pop. She herself refers to 'Exile'as one of the most influential albums of the 90's. I'm glad she has such a humble attitude.

She doesn't hold a candle to Aimee Mann or even Julianna Hatfield in the adult, alternative songwriter rock scene.

Now Phair has hired songwriters to help push her innuendo style, and as it appears, they decided to bypass the innuendo altogether. Heck, if it's money she needs, she should have just put the guitar down and gone into porn.

I have to agree with most of that. I'd also add Tanya Donnelly to the list. "Lovesongs for Underdogs" was one of the most underrated albums, IMHO.

I'd add Ani DiFranco to the overrated list, too.

In hindsight producer Brad Wood had alot to do with Exile in Guyville. He produced and played on all the tracks. He probably deserved writing credits as well.
