View Full Version : Oh, JOY!
Hearing this morning, after suspecting for a long time, that the recent Chinese hacking of US government computers has touched designs of our most advanced fighter planes, missile systems and warships! Phew, glad to hear it wasn't anything important!:irked:

No worries. They own those designs anyway. :saywhat:

Yeah, in a way...but, geez, did we have to SHOW them!

With any luck they'll try to build them and have to try and find some idiot stupid enough to loan them the money to build the infrastructure necessary to make them....

don't feel bad, they managed to steal the plans for the new Australian Security & Intelligence Office headquarters. That's only homebase for our domestic intelligence services...
They have to pinpoint where to place the bugs! Having the plans will help.

It helps to tell yourself that we are so much better at it than they are. :)
I have an idea. Why don't we dump that ****ing albatross fighter and spend the $1.4 trillion on actual defense of our country, including hardening our cyber-targets and actively attacking Chinese cyber-targets?
Rhetorical question, as we all know big contracts buy generals extremely cushy retirements. What a scam our military has become. :shakehead
Uh, speaking of cushy public sector retirements, it ain't just the generals. Ask someone from Illinois where they are going to come up with 93 BILLION $$ to take care of THEIR little problem. :shakehead

The F-35 is replacing nearly everything in the fighter and attack role. There's no way we can dump it and meet operational expectations in the immediate future.
Aside from that, why would you assume that the same procurement system spending 1.4 trillion on cyber warfare won't simply create a cyber-albatross?

yeah, but think of all the Cheetos we'd be making to feed all the hackers!

You mean like dumping the space program and relying on the Russkies to get our astronauts into space? :saywhat: :irked:
Indy, we have an open 'net. The problem is the contractors used for defense contracting. The 'standards' for security vary greatly. Trust me, been there, done that for the past 21 years. Integration with partners is a VERY scary ordeal (especially considering PCI, SOX and ONS implications). As I mentioned to Elmo this AM, even companies like Di$ney create fiefdoms and don't work well even with in their own companies...let alone across companies. Again, see above...been there, done that.

No kidding:
But there is still the issue of moving medical information from military records to the VA's system.
"Despite a billion dollars that has been spent to get these two systems to unify, the Pentagon is still deciding to adopt the VA's software model," Lawrence says.

Any engineers here think they could've actually finished the work for a billion dollars?
I hope they don't steal the Whopper Holder designs.
