In your dreams, 'nam...in your dreams. Careful...I may just send Don Q. out your way to kick your ass. :p That being said, Portland State was a landmark W. :gomer:
And since we're talking football...
Morons (sic) > Horns...Mack Daddy needs to hang up his horns. Greg Robinson? His D sucked during the '04 championship run. Justin Zwick should have beaten their ass. Unfortunately a TE with 1' arms... :saywhat:
Okie State...drugs, academics...
SEC players receiving bennies...shocked I tell ya, just shocked.
And lastly, Ank apparently spent some jack on a vanity plate.

Not sure that map is correct. From my data no one in the UP gives a crap about any down state troll school. They are Packer fans. And no one in Jersey gives a crap about Rutgers. South jersey are Iggles fans. North jersey are Giants fans. And if you are from Queens or Long Island or can't get Gints (yes Gints) tickets you are a Jets fan.

I was hoping they were one-off, because A. the stripe didn't match the red on the shirt, and B. as much as grey is one of their colors, the white lettering on the red shirt on the standard jerseys is awesome and shouldn't be effed with.

Kiffin sacked. :laugh:I read this morning they pulled him off the team bus at the airport, took him into a small room and fired him, and then told him to find his own way back to campus.
Haden said something about providing some "relief to the players".
Given Kiffin’s history, the bizarre manner in which he was fired, at an empty airport terminal with his bags headed to campus without him, was perhaps fitting. He had tried to use his recruiting skills to talk Haden out of the decision.

Didn't see it, but here's the recap.
http://scores.espn.go.com/ncf/recap?gameId=332760066
The Cyclones might argue that they couldn't have done it Thursday night either without some huge breaks.
McCoy led Texas on a 75-yard drive in just under 3 minutes -- which was aided by two pass-interference penalties and two near fumbles by Johnathan Gray.
The first one was reviewed after Iowa State's Jeremiah George picked up a loose ball and started running the other way. But it remained Texas ball, much to the dismay of irate Iowa State coach Paul Rhoads.
Gray recovered his own fumble on the next play, and McCoy followed with the winning touchdown.
Ank's next acquisition:
http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/9804238/texas-aggies-sell-playing-surface-football-season
Starting Monday, fans can shell out $400 at AggieAthletics.com to buy a pallet -- complete with a certificate of authenticity -- pulled from the playing surface after the final home game on Nov. 9. That equals approximately 450 square feet of sod that has been trampled upon by Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel and the rest of the Aggies this season.

Good chance Cal goes 1-11 on the season. :shakehead:
They might be able to beat Arizona, or USC, or Colorado but probably not. On Saturday, they were reduced to using a big wide receiver as a running back because the starting RB keeps fumbling and the backups are all hurt. The wide receivers are also decimated by injuries. What does Cal do? They use the demoted starting RB as a slot receiver. :irked:

Cal's football graduation rate last among all BCS schools.
The NCAA released its Graduation Success Rates (GSR) on Thursday, and although several Cal athletic programs scored high, the football and basketball programs dropped.
The statistics are based on a four-year cohort ending in 2006, meaning they reflect any students — freshmen or trasnfers — who joined Cal athletics with financial aid from 2003-06. Players are given six years to graduate.
Cal was one of just two football programs (USC) in the Pac-12 with a GSR that dropped from last year. The Bears’ current mark ranks last in the conference and last among all BCS schools.

I spent a few days in Orlando last week (visiting with a certain furry red friend we all know around here :)). Unfortunately I spent a few days in the resort room due to illness. :( I had time to watch the local media, which discussed this ad nausea (in addition to my nausea)...the response from the FL AG was that they have other cases they are investigating, and it would be two weeks to finish the investigation. All signs are an indictment is imminent. Curious? Yes. The timing is highly questionable (Heistman, BC$). Not quite ready to get my tin foil hat out, tho. I was enjoying a Devils-Sabres game at The Rock when word of the Bama demise hit the kids' iPhones.
Ah. Satisfaction. Especially how it happened. Contrary to popular belief it is not all that uncommon to run back long FG attempts that fall short. Think about it. The kicking team doesn't run down the field to cover the kick and they have big blockers on the field to protect the kick, not swift athletes how can run down a returner. The opportunity doesn't happen that often because coaches and kickers talk after game warmups to agree on the maximum range for that day. (or they should) and not many FG attempts wind up short.
A 58 yd attempt has a pretty good chance of being short - especially since he hadn't kicked that far all day.
It was the height of arrogance on Sabel's part to try to win it there and he didn't apparently think for a second about the risk. He even argued to put time on the clock so he could make the attempt. He didn't even think about it once Auburn put a returner under the goal post.
And it screws up the playoff-less national championship again which please me no end.
It completed an earlier unfulfilled satisfaction that UofM made a great game out of one they had no business being close in.
But I expect MSU defense to shread tOSU and keep them out of the title controversy. And I wouldn't be surprised if FSU gets their QB jailed so the title game will have an asterisk.
Then next year I can look forward to almost meaningful playoffs and Rutgers getting mawled by a Big10 schedule. :gomer:

I was traveling so I missed the game, but I did see the replay. Saban definitely outcoached himself on that one. The backside, ground level replay is great showing no less than 3 dopey Bama players getting blown up by Auburn blockers. Clearly, Bama rarely, if ever, prepared its FG kicking team for a return of any kind, short or blocked. Bring on the playoff next year. Speaking of playoffs, it is possible for the #1 seed in a college football tournament to lose first round, Mankato managed to do it in the DII playoffs last weekend.

If Auburn is on the television, I'm watching. Three incredibly fun games to watch in three weeks.
So the Buckeye win streak comes to an abrupt halt. Seems like it's just as well since the Buckeye defense has been exposed and a national title game likely would have been a beat down that would have simply fueled the weak conference storyline on the Big 10.
Seems like it's time to move on from Luke Fickle as defensive coordinator if they hope to get back to the big dance.

Fick needs to go. I like they guy personally, but the D regressed. Yes, losing Bryant was big, and injuries @ LB didn't help, but this tOSU....man down, reload. Not a big fan of Herman either. For all of this talk of the explosive offense....meh. Brax plays like Carrot Top with feet. And don't get me started on the special teams. The only bright spot there was the punter, followed by Basil, who fails to reach the end zone on kickoffs far too often.
Playing Sparty is like fingernails on a chalkboard. In many ways, I despise them more than TUN. They have always creeped me out. My first real memory of a tOSU game was the '74 game when Woody planted Wayne Duke against a locker. Fast forward to Saban and his minions in '98, and now this. :-\

too many old rich guys meddling, both w/in UT and w/ state govt. Mack admitted he had an alabama hangover in 2010 (you're payed $5.5M a year to not pout about a bowl loss for an ENTIRE YEAR), and that he'd take 3 years to fix things or step down. 10 wins and a BCS bowl again by 2013.
The OC leaves in offseason and Mack fires DC midseason because he couldn't do it in offseason, because that would mean both of his coordinators were removed after 2 years and then what's the point of keeping the HC? And then he shifts goalpoasts, B12 title is all that matters for 2013, not 10 wins and BCS bowl, and he still fails at that. Baylor loss ended his and his old rich guy backers their "legitimate" politicking to stay.
Mack's public mouthpieces: Red McCombs, Clear Channel guy used to own the Vikings, this week blames everything on the quarterbacks and publicly calls Case McCoy "half gimp." <---Team Mack keeps it klassy.
-Lost 3 of 4 to Baylor, OU, Ok State, Kansas State

If Vance Bedford comes with him as DC, fantastic, and he won't be a lazy recruiter as Mack was after Mack's championship.
Happiest that he's not strong w/ the media/political side of it, which is what Mack turned the job into. A gravy boat for all his lackeys, anyone removed for performance was given a cush gig in the AD's office. One of the biggest lies about Mack is his graduation rate, it's below average for D1 and 3rd from last in the B12 because Mack's academics advisor is a schmuck, and the guy was removed from baseball & basketball years ago due to his inabilities. Same song for so many ppl on staff...
Have a feeling Strong and the new AD clean house and instill actual accountability for the 6 fig salaries everyone gets to pull.

Mack talked the right game, but he had his cleaners on staff, the people that give him deniability and enforce when Mack can't so Mack can play "uncle." One of his best friends was fired for sexual harrassment (his office across the hall from his wife's) and that guy was given a cush job w/ a booster.
Have a feeling Strong won't give the media warm & fuzzies, but will truly run the program the way Mack pretended to. one of strong's players at Lville had 2 DUI's and was kicked off the team but kept his scholarship, counseled academically, graduated... meanwihle sergio kindle has a couple DUI's including a DUI crash, and it's covered up as "texting while driving," yea right....
Boy that's a lot of dirty laundry to air out in one post. I'm just glad that nobody at tOSU was ever just paying lip service to high integrity. :gomer:

nrc and dando, what did you two think of "Youngstown Boys" (if you watched it)?
Ank, great info. I'm also very pleased to see McCombs blowing his top at not being in the process (and the very strong undercurrent of racism -- "he'd be a good position coach"). Makes me hope Strong wins so much McCombs gets his words shoved back in his face.

I hadn't even heard about it. Scheduled to record on Friday so I'll let you know. My first thought is... they got two hours out of that?
