Lots of not-so-smart truculence from the Leafs though. Clarkson's a guaranteed 10 game Shanaban for leaving the bench and Kessel has a one game ban for his match penalty for the two hand stick swing on John Scott. Stupidity aside for a minute, goalie fights are awesome.
And the game the night before for these two teams went 15 rounds in a shootout before someone won. Hockey, welcome back.
This is not going to end well.

I am not sure this is the smartest move, but...

Based on the earlier video, I am imagining a Craig Berube (7th all time for penalty minutes) vs Patrick Roy match-up. :saywhat:

Don't look now, but the Avs are at 3-0. Patrick Roy is undefeated as a head coach. And Varlamov just tied his number of road wins from last year (1). :D

It only took 4 games, but the Sabres finally got a point. :saywhat:
Tyler Myers has reverted back to a baby giraffe on skates, Miller has a wonky groin (that's what she said), our 3rd jersey is officially a turdburger (http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-puck-daddy/buffalo-sabres-reveal-perhaps-nhl-worst-jersey-pass-165440118--nhl.html) and it costs $10 for a bottle of water and a pretzel at the FNC. This season is off to a great start.

My advice to you is not to drink water to watch bad hockey. Find a different beverage. :D
No worries...the Blow Jackets are coming to visit tomorrow. ;)

It's the club's worst start since they went 0-5-2 to open the 1999-2000 season.
The Sabres have scored just five times in their first five games.
Look on the bright side, the Slugs visit Chitown next. :gomer:

Tonight was the first time I got to see the Sabres play (ok, on tv) this year. I thought they were really good... at boarding.;) In defense of Myers, he did save a goal tonight that Miller couldn't. Miller was pretty impressive, though, and indeed got Number 2 Star of the Game.
Speaking of baby giraffes on skates, I also learned tonight that while I wasn't paying attention, the Sabres acquired former-Blackhawk John Scott. On one hand, as a Hawk's fan I kind of miss having him as an enforcer. On the other hand, well, everything else, plus he is so big that almost nobody would go fight with him. Except Kevin Westgarth that one time. :D
Good watch 30 for 30 on John Spano.

I am in no way defending the elbow portion of the hit, but Eriksson's head was down while skating across center ice. That's rule number one - keep yer head up. Kaleta's suspension is a joke. Yes, he's a repeat offender, but no penalty was called on the play and no injury resulted. Other hits that have sent guys off on stretchers get less of a punishment.
The Sabres have become almost comically bad at this point. I was at last week's Canucks/Sabres game and when the best parts of the game were my chicken fingers and watching the little Canucks fan in front of me enjoy his first game, you know you're darn close to rock bottom. When Miller finally explodes, you may hear the boom in C-bus.

Sabres fire their GM and head coach and hire Pat LaFontaine and Ted Nolan as director of hockey ops and interim head coach.
I feel like I should be looking for Sherman and Peabody as we've been transported back to the 90s. This team may be a tire fire, but darn it, they're an entertaining tire fire when it comes to off-ice stuff.

I know it isn't NHL related, but Mankato is playing Northern Michigan for the first time in conference play this weekend. Since the elder Longman went to Northern Michigan, I thought I would take some time to get some smack going. Unfortunately, Mankato is under-performing so far this year, in a conference it should be crushing, so I am not optimistic at this time.

Not sure I can really talk much smack. NMU is pretty well proving they can't be better than a .500 team this year. ND next week is a big test. And Mankato too. ;)
People I know think I'm nuts (to go to the UP in dead of winter) but I am thinking of going to Marquette rather than home in January for either the Alaska Fairbanks series or the Mankato series. I guess that actually is nuts but why not? I love the place.

Marquette's not Houghton, plus from what I have heard it doesn't get that cold along the lake.

I spent several winters at sub -30F in Marquette and +200" of snow. Houghton gets a bit more snow but at that point who really cares? I like Houghton but MQT is a much funkier and more livable town. And as a female fan I once went to to a Tech NMU game with told a Tech fan seated near us, "At least these boys have some girls". :)
Time for Marty B. to hang up the skates.

And all of this happens Hockey Day in Canuckistan, no less. Torts is guaranteed a meeting with Colie Campbell for the locker room fracas, and he and Hartley are most likely destined for "player selection" fines.
Meanwhile, back in the league basement, Ryan Miller continues to make an argument for the #1 US goalie position in Sochi. He's had at least one   save per game lately.
